Should I Stay on the Ship?

Both cruises in the past I stayed on the ship during port days - and I thought we would do something this time in each port, but should I choose one day to just stay on the ship while in port?

To me the whole point of cruising is to explore different cultures. I would get off the ship & explore-we've zip lined, went cave tubing, shopped, got massages on the beach, jet skied & rented canoes in the ocean. The best part of our trip is always waking up not knowing what adventure we are going to wake up too try it-you might be pleasantly surprised!

I would get off the ship and explore if you have never done it before. It can be lots of fun.

Now see this is what I was thinking, but then I saw that someone was asking which port to skip and it made me wonder if that was something I should do for some reason.

Some people like to enjoy the ship when most people are ashore. We came back early from a port so we could ride the Aquaduck without a long line.

The ship doesn't have a lot of activities going on while in port. The shops aren't open either, but you could catch a movie. But why miss the opportunity to explore new places?

I love, love, love, love staying on the ship while in port. It's like having a huge ship and crew to your self. On this years WBPC I was off the ship maybe a grand total of 6 hours. Three at Castaway and three in Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta would not have happened if not for two things. One, it was the day the new Star Trek movie came out and if the mall across the street from the port had it in a time when I could see it in English and get back on time I was going to see it. Second free wifi at Starbucks at the mall.

Ok that does sound fairly awesome.
And I really didn't want to do our first port anyway, I found a semi submarine excursion for a 100 bucks but it wasn't something I really wanted to do - more the only thing I could find in that port that didn't look completely wrong for me.

So, I'll skip Grandy Caymon then do Salsa & Salsa in Costa Maya and the Cuisine Workshop in Cozumel. I LOVE cooking classes - but then I love to cook.

I stay on because I don't cruise for ports, I cruise to relax and not have a care in the world. Going on shore excursions is not relaxing. Well at least not to me.

I guess it depends on which port you are in. If you've been to that port before and not really excited about it I see nothing wrong wtih staying on the ship.

I had decided on that.
Then I realized the Western was available over my actual bday... and that I had wanted to take the Western and gotten stuck with Eastern last time and maybe I would actually like the Western and maybe if I got off the boat and did excursions (with the money I saved doing this over the B2B) that I might have more fun then I did on my only other 7 day.

I still hate that there wont be concierge available to me for the trip (which was one of the primary reasons that I was looking at a b2b to get the same amount of time while still having concierge) but w some help from my wife we decided to let it go this time and catch it when we have a chance to plan further in advance next time.

She also helped me figure out that some of the problem last time might have been my social phobia, and my stubborn refusal to do anything I thought might make me feel embarrassed even a little. So she convinced me to to make it a challenge to myself to go this time. To go and get in my swimsuit and swim in front of other people, and let go of my stupid ick about sharing pool space with other people, and to go to the clubs and get out there and dance with her at night, and to take part in the games when I can, volunteer to do all the little things I wanted to do last time but was too shy to do. To put myself out there and never mind what other people think and just maybe I'll discover that I get back what I put in.

We're still going to try to pick up a 4E though.

Ditto. And I love that most people get off the ship and I have a nearly empty ship to enjoy.

Our first cruise is in September, we are going to the Bahamas, I have no interest in getting off the shop at that port. We are staying on ship, but of course are getting off at cast away cay!

Good for you We are taking a western in May 2014 and looking forward to getting off in each port (GC, CC, Cozumel & Falmouth). We have found a lot of exciting excursions that we hope to book so we are absolutely getting off the boat! I was not a fan of our "sea day" last year but I'm hoping I will change my mind on the 7 night.

You can really have a lot of fun but you have to allow yourself to. We don't like being in the pool with tons of people so we completely avoid the family pools but the adult's only pool never really got crowded on our cruise.

It sounds like your wife has the right idea. I hope y'all have a great cruise and good luck getting a 4E.
