I know this will be an unpopular statement but I think that the Goofy and Dopey challenges should have 1/2 marathon proof of completion for all participants, not just for corral placement and maybe even marathon proof of completion. These types of challenge races are not for new runners who don't know how their bodies will handle the stress of the runs and being out there for four days in a row running. I think Disney is thinking with their bank account and we as consumers are thinking about the bling but that is how people get hurt. I ran 3 marathons before I even attempted the Goofy challenge and it was hard! I trained for it completely different than any of my other marathons, including running multiple races in the same week to simulate the conditions and running back-to-backs in training. I just ran a series race that was the same as the Dopey minus the marathon except it was in 24 hours (10K, 1/2 marathon, 5K) and while the 10K went great I had stomach cramps during the 1/2 that killed both that run and my 5K time. And I am a seasoned runner! I have run 16 1/2 marathons and 6 marathons and this race was brutal!
So I am glad that Disney is starting to get more serious about making runners more accountable for their times.
100% behind you on this!

Was just looking at the RunDisney blog and they are giving preferred corral placement to the Runner's World entrants again. I guess for 2x the price they are paying for it!

I don't disagree as it is not a bad idea but don't think it is necessary. If someone wants to go out and try, go for it. If they get tired they walk and maybe get swept or pull a muscle, strain, etc. I think they are crazy, but what the heck. Disney is all about the experience, not race times.

It's not like they are swimming and could drown if they can't finish the race or maybe biking and they fall off and not only hurt themselves but others too.

If they want to spend the money and go out there and suffer then go for it.

I also think this is a good idea.

Is the time cut off of Nov 1 2013, just for the Marathon Weekend races ( Goofy, Dopey, etc) ? Or is it for ALL the 2014 races? Was just wondering because I am planning on running a Halloween 10K race to earn a time for the Princess half in 2014. If princess runners also have to submit proof of time before Nov 1, that might get tricky. Anyone know?

I don't mind the change, but the only qualifying race I would have had is the wine and dine which is after the new cutoff. I emailed run Disney about it. Seems the deadline should be pushed just 2 more weeks to accommodate.

Personally I wouldn't use a Disney race anyway. Your time won't be as good as a less crowded local race. I would find a local 10k (or 10 miler if you are doing the full/goofy/dopey) that is in September or October and use that. Better yet, if you are doing the full/goofy/dopey find a local half and use it as a training run and submit that time. It will be a great practice run for getting up early to simulate the conditions and you can test out fuel and other equipment. You will be doing the milage anyway.
If you are doing the 1/2, a 10k or longer should be easy to find and pretty inexpensive to enter.

I do think it's great they are being more strict with corral placements, but I had planned for a local 1/2 marathon on Nov 9 to be my proof for the full marathon.

Anyone know of a 10 mile race in/near NJ in the fall? I am new to distance running and I don't want to end up doing 2 half marathons so close to each other. I already paid for the Nov 9 race.

I think this is a good change also. I always wondered if they actually checked my proof of time!

I agree. This should be a good thing. I will probably be pushed back a few corrals because my half race POT I have to submit was not a fast race. I hope to run another this fall for a better POT.

I'm running the WDW full and plan to register on April 9 to make sure I get in! I do have a 10 miler race to submit for corral placement that I ran on Jan 1 this year. But I have a half coming up on April 27. I have gotten faster than I was when I ran my 10 miler and I am sure my half could move me up. So I'll email them my new proof of time. But my concern is, will they actually read it, acknowledge it, and adjust my corral placement based on an email? Anyone have experience of successfully getting moved up from submitting a proof of time via email?

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments on this. I am a huge worrier. I think the changes could be really great overall especially if people cannot fake a time that they cannot run just to get moved up. I always place myself in races back enough where I will not slow down the faster runners, but ahead enough to not be delayed by the slower ones. It just seems fair to everyone.
I was able to get an improved corral placement by emailing them proof of time. I emailed the name of the race, the date, my name and bib number along with the link to the official race results online. I got a return email within a few days that they had gotten my email and adjusted my estimated finish time accordingly. It was pretty easy and worked fine for me.

I definitely agree with you! I am reading on Facebook of people doing Dopey as their first race. Um, seriously?

At first, I didn't like the idea of a cutoff, and not being able to bring proof of time to the Expo. Especially because I've heard horror stories of people submitting times worthy of B corral, that time not being put in, and them being stuck in a further back corral and having to fix it at the Expo. What happens if they screw somebody up? By the time bib info comes out and a person learns they got the wrong corral placement, they are SOL. I don't think that is fair and I hope they have some kind of fail safe in place for those people.
But I can understand the cutoff for time submissions. It saves from over crowded corrals. How many people changed at the last minute at the expo? A couple thousand maybe(I have no real clue, just a shot in the dark). That is a decent shift to earlier corrals, making them more crowded. This keeps the corral numbers pretty even, so I understand the point in that.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the new changes. I know some people still no the tricks and still lie about proof of time, but hopefully this will help alleviate a lot of the bottle necking and crowding.

I signed up for the Dopey but put N/A for proof of time. I will be doing quite a few half's this year and at least one full before the Dopey. Of which, I will pick the best out for proof of time.
I must then email over this info to the address stated above...and they will verify it?
No longer can we do this at the expo? Is that because too many ppl ended up in the wrong coral? Someone posted on here prior to marathon weekend this year that they were accidently placed in the B coral when they should have been in the way back.

I do not want to be in the way back. So I will work my tail off to get a good finish time.
