Can anyone recommend a good GPS for reasonable price?

Hii all. I just started a new job where I will be travelling every day all over South Jersey. I was wonderring if anyone could recommend a reliable and relatively affordable GPS. I really need a good one as I am a nurse and will be going to people's home and I have no sense of direction on without the GPS lol.

Thanks for any advice

Do you have a smart phone? I would use a smart phone app (actually I do).

We haven't used our standalone GPS for years since we got apps for that on our phones.

Prior to that, we had a Garmin Nuvi which was great.

I like our Garmin nuvi. I am also a home health nurse and outside of 1 addy I've been good. And the 1 addy must be tough b/c my phone nor another nure's GPS could find it.

I just use the google directions app on my phone. It talks the directions plus shows a map and actual pics of the location. Better yet, it's free.

I have a TomTom that I love and would say is great for me. I don't think I would recommend ANY unit rather I would recommend features which should included FREE Lifetime map updates and FREE traffic. Beyond that it is more a look and feel of the unit and its interface - what works for me may not work for you.

My husband is on his 2nd Garmin Nuvi. I gave him one with the lifetime maps for his birthday last year. I think I paid around $109 from Amazon. Very user-friendly and the Garmins have always given us good, reliable directions. The new model is especially good when you're exiting an interstate or at a major intersection, it gives you a picture of the lanes and shows you which one to get in for your next turn.

DH and I both have Garmin Nuvis. The lifetime maps and traffic are well worth it.

Personally, I could never use a smart phone app in place of this.

I got my whole family Garmin Nuvis with lifetime map upgrades. I find the traffic feature on mine very unreliable.

We use our iPhones mostly now. Got sick of all the times the GPS was looking for the satellite, losing signal, etc. My daughter and I like the Waze app.

But make sure you have the phone plugged in, or you may re-down your battery.

I just realized my smart phone (Samsung Note) has an amazing Navigation program that uses Google maps but it talks to you like a regular GPS would. I am using my phone now. But up until I started using my phone I used my Garmin. It is about 5 years old now and I had to pay last year to update the maps because when I bought mine they didn't offer lifetime maps like they do now. You can get a decent model with lifetime maps for around $129. I would go with Garmin over Tom Tom or any of the other GPS models just because I have used it and I know how accurate they are. What is worse than not having a GPS is having one that sends you to a different location than where you should be going. I would buy from Amazon. They seem to have much better prices than the retail stores. They even have better prices than going directly through the Garmin website if you can believe that.

I just bought the Garmin Nuvi 2595 for $139 at Target. All the GPS units are on clearance. Lifetime updates, USA, Canada, Mexico.. Great deal.

Another Vote for the Garmin Nuvi!

Matter of fact, I'm getting ready to sell my 2009 model to get something a little "newer"...

I would have to agree...an affordable Garmin would be my choice. They are rock solid.

I have a Garmin as well, but quite frankly, have been using the free Google Maps App on my iPhone instead. It is faster (no more very long initial "searching for satellites" or "recalculating" messages) and has voice directions. If you have an iPhone, this is the way to go.
