Sequestration and Port Canaveral

Carnival and Royal Caribbean both reported delays this weekend in embarkation at Port Everglades in FLL due to the fact that there were less Customs agents to clear passenger disembarking the past week's/day's voyages. Signs were in the terminals saying this was related to sequestration effects.

Has this happened in Port Canaveral. Can any recent (like this past weekend) report any such delays due to a lack of enough Customs agents?

Interesting....can't wait to hear what people's experiences were.

There were no signs in the DCL customs area on 3/30/13 when we got off the Fantasy in PC. All the stations had agents and the porter said nothing about delays. In fact, once we got in line it kept moving and we were out quite quickly even though it seemed long and we expected it to take a while.

Several cruise lines have now sent out emails regarding sailings out of FLL and MIA. I wonder if this will also affect Port Canaveral.

Welcome to Sequestration folks!

It is only going to get worse as time goes on and more budgets are cut across the board.

Wouldn't the taxes and port charges paid by cruisers directly fund the government's efforts to support the ports? Airlines charge a security fee that funds the TSA, does that revenue completely fund that agency? If so, why would they cut back staff?

Oh wait! It's the government, common sense isn't required.

You hi that one right on!

What people don't seem to understand, this has nothing to do with funding...its the Politicians way of punishing the public in the most effective way.........both the traveling public and news! So we won't complain about the tax hikes they want us to accept!

Small price to pay to start this country back towards being fiscally responsible! Long overdue.

Agreed, although I just wish they would prioritize funding based on which programs are cost effective and are most helpful of the public. Instead it seems like funding is prioritized by who is giving the biggest campaign contributions.

Been that way for as long as we've been alive unfortunately.

Hope the impact on travel is minimal. Might just take a bit to adjust to the new normal.

Just got off the Fantasy on Saturday. I didn't notice any slowdown at PC.

Also, there was no wait for security at MCO.
