Well... as usual the day is FLYING by! I did "waste" some time watching a few short videos about one of the former BL contestant who regained his weight and is now working to get it off AGAIN! But it was inspiring and reminds me that I need to be VIGILANT about this! It is truly a DAILY if not HOURLY commitment to continuing to EAT HEALTHY and EXERCISE (even when I don't want to!). He said he hit the finale at 221 lbs.... a few weeks/months later he realized he was 250 but thought it was no big deal.... and the next time he checked he had gained back everything he had lost PLUS MORE!! It is scary to think about!

Anyhow.... next up is LUNCH (one of my favorite parts of the day ) and a shower. I need to pick up the kids early today, as it is an early release day. I have to attend a meeting as part of the training for my new job tonight, so I need to get a little bit dressed up.... oh well.

Off to chug some water and figure out what is for lunch. I packed up a nice black bean and tomato concoction, but I will save that for tomorrow's lunch sack, since it is ready to go and easy to warm up and eat at school. I will start lunch with a nice big salad!

Pamela who was it? Quite a few have regained all the weight. That saddens me because it's such a wasted opportunity and it means they didn't fight their demons while on the ranch. I always wonder if they get mental help along with the physical help. Jillian tries and her mom was on the show once and she seemed like a really good psychologist, but it doesn't seem like they get enough help in that department.

I would try to eat my food more regularly. I tend to eat a small breakfast, a small lunch, and then graze at dinner. I am usually with in my points, but I need to try to balance it more during the day so that I am keeping my levels even and not wanting to eat everything in sight come 6:00.
I would take my vitamins every single day. I am so bad at this, but I feel so much better when I do. And I really should be taking them every day, because I am probably low on b vits in addition to the d vit. I feel better when I take them, and when I feel better I eat better.

I am sorry it is making you sick, but what about taking this as a sign that it is time to wean yourself off it (or give it up cold turkey)? I had a 20+ year dc habit that I gave up in 2010. I do have a regular coke on occasion, which I am thinking I need to now give up as well. Soda is so ridiculously bad for us. But so habit forming. Anyhow, just wanted to share that it is possible to quit the habit.

Ok, I am kind of a mess. I am going to try April on my own, and then if things have not improved, go see my doctor. I am not eating well at all, not taking care of myself, and not very happy. So, going to commit to getting it together in April. And then we'll go from there.

I have managed to eat all of the junk that I brought into the house., so that's taken care of. Ugh. I think there are still some pretzels, but they are not usually too big a problem.

So in April I will:
*exercise for at least 30 min every day (even if it is a walk around the block or on the treadmill)
*take my vitamins every day after breakfast
*give up the coffee and the soda. This is going to be hard. I could probably keep the coffee cause I drink it black. But I need to cut back on the caffeine. The more caffeine I drink the more soda I crave. And I am not drinking enough water. It will mean a couple days of headaches, but in the long run it is the best plan for me. Then in May, I will go back to the occasional cup of coffee or unsweet tea. No more coke.
*I will meal plan for the rest of the month.
*No chocolate, chips, etc in the house for the rest of the month. I will have a small (custard cup) of ice cream after dinner if I really want it. This has worked for me in the past, but the servings have gotten kind of big lately.
*I will not let myself get frustrated, depressed, etc that I have found myself in this situation again. My weight is still lower than it was on Jan 1, and in a healthy range. BUT my clothes are all to tight, I don't like how I look in pictures, I am making really poor choices, AND I feel ridiculously out of control and really just cruddy and gross. Since going g-f I just never got into a good routine with the weight management. And that's ok.
*I will check in here at least once a day.
*I am on the fence about tracking, because when you cook everything from scratch it really can be a pain in the butt, so I am going to think about that one before I decide.

Ok, enough is enough, time to get on the wagon. I am not usually a big fan of setting goals based on an event, but my DS graduates in a month. And right now, I feel so bloated, gross and bad about myself. I don't do big social situations very well, and I don't want to go into this one which is such a big deal, feeling so bad.

I think it is all just scaring me a bit, because right now, I really do feel like I could gain every pound back.

Ok, thanks for letting me ramble on.

Off to put the laundry in the dryer and start my meal plan.

QOTD Saturday 6th April 2013:

Now that spring is officially upon us, I'm asking 'Do you change your eating habits with the seasons?'

I eat more salads in summer, more stews in winter, and would never eat oatmeal (porridge) or soup in hot weather. I would like to eat more 'seasonal' fruit and veg, but unfortunately farmers markets are few and far between here, and the supermarkets stock pretty much everything all year round. I do try to buy British produce where I can though.

Have a great day everyone, be back to check in on you all later.
I eat more fruits and veggies in the summer because I really love going out to the farms. I think I'm going to try riding my bike out there a few times this summer as my workout of the day since that's what gets in the way-- working out all the time and work. It's 5.6 miles to the farthest farm and my work is 4.5 so it's only a few more minutes--think I can handle it, only issue is hauling it back but I have a basket and I could take a back pack. It opens the 24th.

So, as we're all doing really well with our monthly goals, I thought I'd see what support we're all getting.......

QOTD Sunday 7th April 2013

What is the one thing that your nearest and dearest could do to help you on your weight loss/maintenance journey that they aren't doing already??

Mine would be for DH to take more interest in meal planning...don't get me wrong he's great at coming shopping, carrying the bags, helping me cook and does the dishes...but he always asks what are we having for breakfast/lunch/dinner?'. Would be nice if I didnt have to plan it all sometimes.

Have a great day, I'll look in on you all later.
Where do I begin. First of all he likes the weight on me. I think he's just trying to be nice but it doesn't help. He did get roller skates so he could go out with me when I'm o-- but I think he overestimates my skills there. I should really look out for some skates at good will etc so we could just go skating together--the bike path near us is wonderful.

Thanks for all of the great replies to yesterday's question, hugs to those of you who have no help around the house...think I'd kick him out if he didn't help...I was brought up in a family where even if you went out to work, you were still expected to contribute to household chores.

Anyway, had a busy day at work today, it was quiet in the office, so managed to get caught up on loads of stuff that kept getting put to the bottom of my in-tray. Dinner is in the oven (roasted potatoes, squash, parsnips and carrots, with pork loin steaks done with thyme, lemon zest and black pepper. I'll drizzle it all with a bit of balsamic vinegar when done). Who knows, I may even find 30 minutes to go out for a walk after eating.

Which brings me on to......
QOTD for Monday 8th April 2013

If you only had time to exercise for 30 minutes, 3 times a week, what would you do?? Aerobics, swimming, running?? Same thing every day, something different each day??

As you all know by now, exercise is not top of my list of priorities, but I do need to do something, so I'm starting Couch to 5K next week and am planning on entering 'Race for Life' which is a charity 5K run all over the UK throughout the summer. Our local one is on 7th July, so should be enough time to train and produce a convincing attempt on the day!!

Look forward to hearing from you all
Hands down the elliptical at the gym.

So, onto QOTD for Tuesday 9th April 2013

If you could change just one thing about your eating habits for a month (in a good way, not a bad way!) what would it be??

Mine would be less carbs, but I love my potatoes, pasta and rice! I dont have the strength to give them up.....I could never do the Atkins.

Eat only one snack at night. I'm starting to get 2-3 any more. I get to where I feel deprived sort of and then the stubbornness kicks in and I'll eat until I'm satisfied. Which brings me to a question also.
Have any of you actually starved at some point in your life? When I was anorexic as a teen I got down to 84 pounds and was hungry a lot. Also when I first moved to California we pretty much survived on a bag on lemons from a tree for a week. Any cat I've ever had that's know hunger has been overweight, just thinking that has to have something to do with how I eat.

Quote:
Which prompts me to ask this: I've read it takes 21 days for a change to become habit. What is one small thing everyone does to change their eating habits? I'm hoping maybe I can get some good suggestions here.
I started eating fruit on my lunch or break at work (which I've started taking recently after 20 some odd years of not doing so).

QOTD: it's a conspiracy...I've tried to answer this twice now. If this one doesn't work, I'm shooting my computer...

Now that I've ranted, I would like to try and eat fish and more vegetables that I don't already. I'm just SO picky, I know I'm missing out on some really healthy food choices.

Right there with you Amanda. It's like my body doesn't register the meal is over until it gets a little something sweet. At least it only takes one little piece of chocolate to figure that out!

Hey stranger! Sounds like you've been REALLY down in the dumps. But have no fear, for the DIS is here!! I think we all have those days/weeks/years where we all feel like beached whales. I guess the best words of wisdom I can offer is DON'T GIVE UP! I have this argument with the OCD DH all the time...if you don't care of yourself, how do you expect to keep on taking care of everyone else??? Just go back to the basics of what you know and take it a step at a time. I've voluntarily taken a break from running until June and feel like a miserable bloated ball of bubble gum, but I know it's not going to stay that way. I think having the right attitude too is a huge part of the mind games that I'm convinced our fat cells play on us . You've taken the first step and made a list of super positive steps. Now just start with one at a time. Next thing you know, you'll be bonking yourself on the head wondering why you got so worked up over it in the first place!

Well Sunday was the 2 week mark for the kittens. After reading a bit online about how long you can use dry formula I was out Sunday night at 10 PM looking for decent formula to feed Sunny. The formula I'd been giving her was from last summer for Triumph and Shasta and although the expiration date wasn't for awhile I guess you're only supposed to keep it 3 months in the fridge after opening. So I smelled it-- it was a little strong, I think she just didn't like the taste of it--funny girl. She likes the fresh stuff-- has actually started suckling at the dropper' which is awesome. I went from forcing her once a day to 2-3 times a day now. It is exhausting but very rewarding to see her looking more healthy. Just a bit ago I went in and held her while Momma was eating and she curled up purring under my robe. (Seeing me in a different light now lol) They are out and about a lot more now-- I'll go in there and find Sunny out in the middle on the floor so I found some cardboard that will thwart escape attempts and put a heating pad in the closet. The closet just has a lot of sheets and blankets in there so that's going to have to be their area for now as they still are not at the age where they regulate their body temperature. I've also started putting heated water balloons in socks in their carrier because Mom is getting increasingly restless. She doesn't seem to be in heat-- just bored. She lets me feed Sunny but get a little meowy and after tries to feed her herself. I noticed she's taken her out away from the others to feed her by herself. The others are enormous-- they just take over. She's really a good Mom. I'll take more pictures tonight. I just haven't wanted to take any because Sunny was so small and sickly looking. She's looking much better as of today though. I was really scared we would lose her.
Did a little fun shopping last night at goodwill and had a $10 off $20 coupon for a birthday bonus at Sally's so I went and got some professional tweezers. Found a sewing machine for my daughter at Goodwill for $25 and then half off, have to get it over to her so she can make sure it works. Got some really pretty earrings and necklaces. Gonna have to organize my jewelry these days I'm off. The cats have sort of laid waste to my jewelry by knocking over my jewelry box more than a few times and knocking down my seasonal jewelry tin. Plus I kind of take stuff off and don't put it back ... Also got an old gold purse that's pretty and also has 2 side pockets and a long chain instead of being a clutch so I'm going to use it as my every day purse instead of hanging it on the wall or using it for special occasions. I love purses and switch them out a lot. Found a big cat tree that's 3 tier and fits perfectly under the kitchen window so the cats can sit and look out. It's got lots of cubby's and fun stuff-- they love it. For $30 couldn't pass it up.
Well better go at least do the elliptical-- it's getting late. I've been reading on my phone but I'm just not a texter so haven't been responding. Weight's stayed the same all week.
Was a little upset all week because I kept seeing my "friend" around a young girl at work who has had a crush on him for a long time but realized pretty quickly she was just stalking him more freely because of the break up lol. She stalks the schedule mercilessly and she's a store managers daughter so she has to be treated carefully. It's almost funny and I should be more upset but she's pretty cute and hard to be mad at lol. Plus we're kind of friends, I tried to help her the last few years and she's helped me so it's ok. She's actually dating some total loser and I wish she would find someone worthy of her-- just not my friend! Lol.

I think it is all just scaring me a bit, because right now, I really do feel like I could gain every pound back.

Ok, thanks for letting me ramble on.

Off to put the laundry in the dryer and start my meal plan.
I had a lot to say, but PlutoBaby said it all so nicely! Se is right... Go back to basics, take it one step, one meal, one step at a time. You've done it before and you know what it takes AND you know you are capable! Take care of YOU!

Gotta dash for now! ..........P

Thank you. Those were the exact words I needed. Thank you again. I had to give up running for about 10 weeks at the end of 2011 and it was rough, but surviveable, barely . I did better with my weight then, than I am now. Go figure.

***
Took my vitamins, drank a ton of water, ran 5 miles this morning, walked with Mike and the dog after dinner, planned my meals for a week, and cooked a tasty dinner. Feeling much more in control.

Hope everyone has a great night. I am committed to checking in sometime tomorrow.

Well that stinks Pamela, but at least he knows that he needs to make a change. I reading up on Sione, he gained back 60 pounds after the show too. I really don't think anyone has really maintain their "finale weight". It's to hard on them.

Jillian tries and her mom was on the show once and she seemed like a really good psychologist, but it doesn't seem like they get enough help in that department.

This is one of the reasons I really can't stand that show. The environment they are in for the show is great, regulated diet, multiple hours of exercise with personal trainers, and none of your old life to get in the way of your progress. However once they get back to their real life, it is very hard for them to maintain any of that. They also do a lot of this for "show effect" and I am sure there is not much in the way of counceling, either psych or nurtitrional, that they get. If they focused more on working with the chefs and nutritionists for their meals instead of just being served, they would probably make better choices once home. Also if they had intense psychological therapy and perhaps family therapy to help them understand why they have gained weight, they would probably do better once home as well. But sadly that doesnt translate into ratings like just showing images of fat people exercising and pushing themselves to the brink with a trainer yelling at them.

There is also the image that it presents that huge weight loss is just that easy and why can't anyone do it. I read about people comparing themselves to these people and then getting depressed when they cannot achieve the same results.

Its really not at all surprising that most of the people gain most if not all their weight back. I do agree that it is also very sad what it does to their metabolism & mental health in general.

I watched that too.. is the guy from Hawaii (I think) who went to BL with his cousin or brother? Sucks! But I think that probably happens a lot. I love the show but I also know it can be unhealthy for the participants and for thise watching who don't put the whole think is perspective...

Sooooooo glad the little one is doing better!! I can't wait to see new pics of them!!
