kitten help needed

We just found 3 kittens in our backyard. The were probably dumped here. Two are fine but one had its eyes closed up with gunky stuff. I took a warm rag and wiped them off and the eyes are really red and swollen looking.

Any suggestions on what to do for him? I really don't have vet money right now. But of course if thats what it takes I will find it somewhere. I'm just hoping theres something I can do here at home.

Oh, and they are about 6 weeks old.

Keep an eye out for mom - she may be looking for them

Call your local cat shelter(s) to see if they can help you. Sometimes they can help with vaccines and meds even if they don't have room to take them in

If nobody returns your calls, call around to different vets to see if they can help. Just explain the situation

You may have to foster them yourself

It is more than likely an infection and needs antibiotics, especially if it is green and pus-y looking. I'm glad you were there for the kittens. People just suck sometimes!

My kitten had gunk around her eye( but it was not read and swollen). Does anyone in your family wear contacts? I did some research online and found that a cotton ball dipped in saline solution for contacts helps. Just wipe it around her eyes when her eyes are shut. Use a fresh one for each side. I did this a few times a day and my kitten was better quickly. My vet had said not to worry about it and she cleaned her eye with something, but I couldn't let her go like that.
Your kitten could have an infection so I hope you are able to find a shelter/vet to help you. In the meantime, try the saline.

Thanks for the replies! The eyes aren't green or pus-y, so thats a good thing. I will try the saline!

I'd keep an eye out for mom. There is prob a frantic mama kitty out there looking for her babies. Make sure you look carefully to make sure no babies wandered off and were left behind.

I once found a cat in dire need of medical attention. I called my local vet and explained the situation. They said as long as I wasn't planning on keeping the cat that I could bring it in. They said they would treat it, then find it a home. Unfortunately it had to be euthanized. Poor kitty.

Make some phone calls Monday morning. Maybe a local vet will be willing to help. Good luck!
