Watch your receipts for meals...CLOSELY!

This might be hard to explain, but i will give it a shot.

Last week, while at DCA, we decided to eat at Taste Pilot's Grill. Decent food and easy to feed the kids here.

We all decided we wanted Bacon Cheeseburgers, but the only burger with bacon is the one with Blue Cheese spread. I was ok with this and ordered it, but the wife and two boys did not want the Blue Cheese. I asked if I could order a basic cheeseburger with Bacon...the CM said sure, no problem. Cool!

So the total order was:

1 X Blue Cheese Burger (I thnk it was like $10.49)
3 X Cheese Burger ($9.99 plus the charge for bacon)
2 X Large Coke

and the total was.....$79.00 !!!!!!!!!! What????
I said "there is no way that is correct" CM said, "yes, it's correct, you ordered bacon and that is extra!"

Huge line in back of us and I did not want to create a scene. I would look at the receipt when I got to the table.

I did look at the reciept and by my calculation it should have been around $50.00. So I finished my burger and went looking for a manager. The manager came out and I explained the problem. She said "but you ordered bacon!" I said, yes, "I know, and am willing to pay, but surely bacon does not DOUBLE the price of the food" She said," no, it's like $2.50 each burger".
WOW, but ok, its Disney, they do price gouge, but that still does not add up to the almost $30.00 difference.

She said, "I will show you, give me a second" and she went inside and rang up the order again with and without the bacon. With Bacon the total was $78, witout the order was $52!!! She claimed this proved her point. i said "yes, the problem is obviously with the bacon, but surely you are not trying to tell me that bacon cost $26.00 !

She now looked confused and very concerned as she suddenly realized that there was a much bigger problem then one complaining customer. Upon close look at the receipt, the line with the 3 burgers looked someting like this:

3 X CHBR
+ BACN
+ BACN
+ BACN

So basically they charged me that outrageous price 9 times! (3 burgers with each burger having 3 orders of bacon!)

I pointed this out, it probably should look like this:

3 X CHBR
+BACN

She said that they had been all trained to do it the other way. She promptly refunded for all the bacon ($26.00) and apolagized. She then said she had to immediately call her boss as she now has a huge problem.

I'm not mad, they did the right thing in the end, but it was amazing that this seems to be either a huge training issue or a huge order entry systems issue.

Moral of the story. Even though we all know it's expensive at Disney, pay close attention to how they charge you.

Wow!! Good thing you checked. I am always so busy with the kids there I don't think I have ever honestly really looked at the charges. I will be sure to from now on. THanks for the warning.

Good for you for helping Disney!

I had a recent situation out at WDW that I wish could have gotten such a personal response. I've been told that it's been passed along to managers, but everyone has been so focused on "I can't believe you're bringing this to our attention, I wouldn't have done that" it's hard to believe they are actually doing their jobs.

Basically we did a pre-paid, expensive, meal in the castle out at Magic Kingdom. We have a discount card that works at the restaurant, so when we dined there we showed the card, and they processed a refund for about $20.

A week later I was checking my CC and saw that refund had gone through promptly. And a day later another refund had gone through; the REST of the meal's cost. So we had, in effect, paid NOTHING for our meal in the castle (and included photo package with Cinderella!).

I have made three LONG calls, and long story short they cannot re-charge me, they cannot believe I'm trying to get them to charge me (if I hear "I wouldn't have done that" again by an employee of the Mouse I'm going to scream), but they promise they've let the restaurant's management know.

I know one other person that it's happened to (in the same week) and I can only imagine how many others there have been but aren't saying anything.

So I'm glad you actually talked with a manager who can do something about it!!!!

It is fun when you have to explain math to people - I mean when common sense does not add up then there has to be a problem - at least you got an employee who figured out something is wrong and didn't just shrug and act like they had no clue, that is really frustrating.

But yes, will be looking at the bills closely - always check when something seems off like that but who knows if you'd only ordered 1 burger you might not have seen such a crazy price and just chalked it up to overpriced disney food.

I think this is good and thanks for everyone sharing. I think it's important to be honest no matter what as Karma has a way of coming back on you and if you aren't honest about accideltally not paying the right amount then you will have the price to pay later and who kows what that price will be. To me it is not worth the few extra dollars... I have given money back when they have gave me too much change and said to the person I know how it is as I was a cashier once and learned the hard way too and suggested counting back the change to the perosn in hopes that they aren't short changed next time... And the cashier can get in trouble if they accidentally took too much money from a customer or paid back too much.. I have given people wallets when I see people drop them or leave them somewhere as well as I would hate to have that happen to me... Thank God there are good people in the world

9 side orders

I know this is not supposed to be funny, but for some reason I laughed out loud at the CM's quote. And I agree! You shoulda asked for the 9 side orders of bacon they tried to charge you.

Glad you found their mistake. And it probably would have been cheaper if you ordered the blue cheeseburger w/no blue cheese or sub american cheese.

Are they training a bunch of new CMs or something? I was there last week and I had to physically punch in my daughter's allergy order for her.

Me: Allergy Fries.
CM: What?
Me: She needs fries fried separately. She has an allergy. Just punch gluten free
CM: You can't do that. We don't sell that.
Me: Yes you do.
CM: I don't know how to do that.
Me: Punch fries, then just punch gluten.
CM: Yea, but what is she allergic to?
Me: Dairy, eggs, nuts. But they fry it in separate oil anyway.
CM: Um..... hold on (runs to the back, then comes back). OK, um. (pushes the fries button).
Me: Can I show you? (I press gluten, the notation comes up).
CM: OH! (she then punches in dairy, egg, nuts)...

This kind of reminds me of school when we all said :

"When will we actually use this stuff ?"

Every day..That is a crazy situation. I know it seems nuts that it could happen but this is what happens when people don't pay attention ( the cashier I mean !) and there is a lack of training or people not wanting to ask questions.

I'm sorry you had to deal with this and I admit I am not the best at math and as a lifelong retail associate who has had to explain how breakdown prices go , I probably would have failed to understand at first too..But also understand that the guest/customer is the reason I am there and I need to hear them out regardless if I am right or not. The most important thing is to figure out what happened , how it happened and how to improve on it or avoid in the future.

Maybe its a good thing I'm trying to lose weight..no add-ons for me..

The sad part is that the CM taking the order was probably doing it exactly as she was trained.

The shocking part was that both the CM and the manager could not do a simple logic test and realize they were charging $80.00 for 4 hamburgers and figure out something was wrong.

I'd like to think this incident would cause them to figure out the problem and make corrections, but I am not confident that will happen.

Exactly this! We had something similar happen at DQ when we were using coupons. Both the cashier and the manager could not "get it". I'm no math guru but common sense tells me that the price shouldn't be THAT much!
Wow! We ate there a few wks ago too. I think I got kids meals though and I of course had the blue ch burger.
