dining times Alaska

Hi all- love reading the boards and getting so many tips! I'm a first- time DCLer (prev with RCCL), planning a trip in August to Alaska. Will be with my mom, my 91 year old Grandad, my dd 6 and ds 3. Thought Disney would be great to span the ages! I was concerned to see that all early seatings are taken when booking. What are the chances of changing dining times once onboard? 8 is really too late for our crew. Are there other venues to eat dinner if we can't change?
Thanks in advance!

I would keep checking for early dinning and if you have a TA have them keep checking. If you do not get it before the cruise go to the Matrade as soon as you get on the ship and give him the story about 8 PM being to late for the older people in your group. If you do not get the early do not use other venues. Dinner on Disney is not like the one you get on the other cruise lines. They make more entertainment out of dinner and the rooms are great.

You can request or ask your travel agent to request that you get wait listed for early dining.

I suggest you (or your TA) contact DCL immediately, and have the early dining request placed on your reservation. Then follow up every couple of weeks (remember the squeaky wheel?). If you don't have the early seating by the time you checkin, go to the dining changes desk as soon as you board, and make the same request. In many cases these methods will work. Sometimes they do not.

Other dining options are the buffet (although it's not buffet for dinner, it's sit-down table service), quick serve locations on the pool deck, and room service.

Ask your TA that you have a 91 in your group and see if that does not work. If not as soon as you board go to the dine change dine room. If not try first thing after your diner some people do not show up and can acomodate you.

On our first cruise, we were unable to get main dining. The head server called a few days to let us know we could do main dining. Some cruisers will alert he dining team if they aren't going to make dinner so someone else can use their table. So, even if you don't get your first choice time, let them know you would be wiling to do it on a day to day basis if that would work for you.

Thanks, all! We are all booked in, on the waiting list, and I will call as often as I remember!
