underwater camera

Is there such a thing as a cheap one that works well? Was hoping to get something for CC.

Thanks.

I have the Kodak Playsport. It was around $100 when I bought it and it takes HD video and stills. Picture quality is pretty good, all things considered. I have used it underwater at CC and St. Thomas and the underwater video was good. It is about the size of a smart phone, so it is easy to stick in your pocket. I am not sure if they still make it or not. I have had mine about 2 years.

I plan on getting the disposable Fuji ones. I think you can get a 4 pack on Amazon for $30 or so.

We really like our Nikon Coolpix AW100. I think I saw it at Costco with case and SD card for $150 last weekend.

Another vote for Olympus Tough. Not only is it waterproof to 5m or approximately 16 feet it is also shockproof and freezeproof. I purchased the seperate underwater case which allows me to take it scuba diving. I also have a GoPro Hero3 but I use it for other activities and have only taken in the water once. I prefer my Olympus Tough.

I have a cruise in May and I had the same thought you did! I am not a scuba diver, so I don't need any thing heavy duty, I just wanted something I could use on Castaway Caye. Based on the discussions in this post, I purchased the Nikon Coolpix S30 Bundle with Case and Floating Wrist Strap from Target for 79.99 (its on clearance). But check out that thread! Lots of go info for you in it!

I got the Pentax WG-II on sale at Target before our cruise. They had a great sale and I was able to get it for just over $100. I'm not sure what your qualification is for inexpensive.

It worked great for what we wanted it for. I used it in and around the pools/spash areas on the ship. I took it exclusively to St. Thomas for our beach day and to Castaway Cay for our beach day. I didn't snorkel in CC as planned because it was too cold, but I got some nice pictures both above and below water.

I'm still working on organizging pictures, but I'll post some samples soon.

I loved getting to take pictures at the beach that I normally wouldn't have gotten to take.

I have been debating this as well... I don't want to spend a lot of $$ right now as I am saving every penny for our cruise in 2 WEEKS .. So I am just going to get the throw away ones for this trip.. Does anyone have any pics they could share which were taken with the throw away cameras??

I didn't use a throw away, but bought a waterproof camera bag from Amazon. You can use it with your regular digital camera and it only costs about $20, depending on what size you need to fit your camera. It worked great and you can take as many pictures as you like. It's called Dicapac. Hope that helps!
