Expedia Park Tickets

So I saw that Expedia had a deal - 5 day park hopper for the price of a 3 day. Anybody ever bought these and if so, how do you get them, how do they work? Are they just like normal tickets I get at AAA??

You get a voucher that you take to the ticket window and exchange it for actual tickets. It may not be like the ones you get at AAA right now. The new tickets are hard plastic with an RFID chip in them. The older tickets, which AAA probably still has, are the paper-like Tyvek tickets.

There is no such thing as a "free" day on any Disney ticket; it is all Marketing Hype!

Whether you are buying a four day ticket with three free days, a five day ticket with two free days, a six day ticket with one free day, or a seven day ticket, all you are buying is a seven day ticket.

Disney wholesales out their tickets to authorized resellers, who are allowed to set any price they want on them. Some may only buy tickets with certain numbers of days, so they advertise free days.

One thing to do is be aware of the actual Gate price of each ticket. If you go to Post #18-A of the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets you can see the official chart. Note these prices do not include the 6.5% Sales Tax. Some of the locations include the tax in their displayed prices while others add it at the end. To get to the sticky click on the link in my signature.

I'm confused. I would pay for park hopper pass. It's the price of a 3 day but you get 5 days. Are you saying there is no such thing?

It's probably a gimmick. I would do a comparison. Check the prices for the same number of days at Undercover Tourist and the official Disney website. You will proably find that a regular 5 day pass on Undercover is the same price as the "buy a 3 day pass get 5 days" offer.

I am saying it is marketing hype! They are selling you a five day pass no matter how they describe it.

An authorized reseller may assign any price to any ticket, and sell it for anything they want or even give them away for free. They have paid Disney a certain wholesale amount for that ticket and they determine their retail price.

If you go to Post #18-A of the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum you will see the official Disney price chart. You do have to add 6.5% Sales Tax to all numbers in the chart to get the price which includes tax. You can get directly to the sticky by clicking the link in my signature.

So I thought I would do some comparisons. The Expedia deal has an adult 5 day parkhopper (3 day ticket with 2 days free) for $318.46. The undercover tourist price with the mousesavers link is $317.44. You can get cashback (2.5%) by purchasing from Expedia through ebates or shop at home which would technically make it cheaper than the undercover tourist price but the savings would be about $7 I think. That makes Expedia the better deal but I don't have any experience with purchasing ticket from Expedia and whether that is more of a hassle or not.

The thing that I dislike the most about the Expedia deal is that you have to input your travel dates and the voucher says its only good for those dates... While I realize that it may not be an issue for most, I find it troublesome because I occasionally have access to cast member tickets and never know for sure if I'm going to need to purchase tickets or not. At least through UT I can save the ticket for use another time.

Thank you everybody. I think we are going to stick with AAA. They are the cheapest ones around and we know they work and trust them. You all are great!

UCT and Expedia are cheaper than AAA price of $310 for a 3 day hopper or 5 day hopper at $332. Because you are spending about $317 for a total of 5 day hopper with either UCT or Expedia.

The WDW price for non-hopper is 268 without tax. If you add hopper and tax, WDW total is $346.13. Expedia is charging $318.46 with tax. UT from MouseSavers special link is $317.44 with tax.
