Arrow DISNEY VISA OBC change for bookings made after 1/1/15 - $50 OBC for beverages only

"UPDATE: Clarity from DCL on the Disney Visa Onboard Credit
The effective date of this change appears to be 1/1/2015 for new bookings. That being said, any current reservations for 2014 or 2015 with the DCC code applied before December 31st will fall under the prior terms and the onboard credit will be good for all onboard purchases. For new bookings starting January 1st the onboard credit will be limited to beverage purchases only."

I searched and can't believe this hasn't been posted here yet. Saw the news on Scott's blog with the fine print from the Visa site. It seems to be unclear at the rewards center if this is effective immediately, if it applies to new bookings only, or if it is for cruises not PIFd yet.

New Disney Visa 2015 offer

That's a bummer since many can't utilize the OBB benefits anymore due to the 18 mo rule and this was the only other OBC DCL offered. We might get one drink onboard, so this doesn't entice us at all.

Agreed. That 18-month window is totally the pits.

Earlier this year I was on the phone booking a 2015 cruise with DCL, & I just happened to mention that I was using my Disney rewards card, to make sure I would get my $50 credit. The CM told me that Disney & Chase were still negotiating this option & she didn't know when or what the final version would be. I guess we know now..... Oh Well Cheers

Maybe they really are going to change the alcohol policy. If they limit how much you can bring on board, offering a $50 credit for alcohol to Disney Visa users would soften the blow.

It's interesting that it is just for beverages considering DCL is the one cruise line where one really doesn't need to pay for beverages. You can BYOB and soda is free. I wonder if this is the first step towards a change in the BYOB policy, maybe a beverage package in the works.

Well that stinks!!! I wonder if this will affect our cruise coming up? Seems like in that link he was unsure. We don't drink soda or alcohol (yea..we are no fun! ) So basically it is a non-perk for us. We do spend money in the spa, which is what I was hoping of using our $100 towards. Bummer. I don't like this change one bit.

The uncertainty on how it will be applied is due to being told three different things by three different employees, not unlike DCL's 800# CMs.

Thank you very much for posting this. I just booked a cruise for April (final payment date in early February).
We'll need to discuss. Will also need to speak to Disney if we can't PIF by the end of this year, as I cannot drink alcohol due to my medication for some serious medical issues ...

Just called DCL and I learned a few things:

It depends when the code is added. They said that when I get my deposit applied, that the code for Disney Visa use-age will be added to my reservation. Since that is within 2014, it has the previous policy included.

As for the drinks; the coffee place is included as a beverage, as well as fancy drinks that are non-alcoholic ... as well as alcoholic drinks.

Thanks! Good to know coffee is included. (We do have that vice. ) Still $100 worth of coffee is a LOT of coffee. But maybe we are ok this time around as we are cruising in a few months (before the end of the year). Still I don't see why they would change it? What is $100 if it is applied to drinks or to spa services? Not sure why they would change it? Unless they want you to drink more onboard?

Drinks have a low cost, so they make more profit from them. Much more than what they can make on souvenirs in the shops or spa services.

That just showed up! I looked for the Disney Visa offer earlier this week and it was still listing only through 2014 sailings (and I think I recall it has to be booked by late Sept. though I didn't note the exact date). So my guess is, the "old" offer has now expired, and this new "beverage" offer is current.

I agree, it doesn't really entice us as we aren't big drinkers. Oh well... I'll just keep digging deeper into my pockets for our cruise funds!

I would think that it would also cover the beverage packages from room service....case of water, anyone?

This is really disappointing!!! I would be willing to accept that it would not be able to be put toward gratuities, but to limit it to only drinks?! We don't drink alcohol or coffee, so that really limits our options!

Has anyone even been able to apply the DCC code when they already have the rebooking room credit? Last time I tried to apply the Disney Visa OBC credit, I was told you can only use one or the other, not both. Since the rebooking credit was more, I went with that one. The fine print seems to say the same. Just wondering if what I was told was correct, because it sounds as if others have had different experiences.
