End of Year/New year Cruise

Hi all, I wanted to know if any of you have cruised and brought in the new year with DCL? I'd like to know if they do anything special? I'm curious because when I price it out the rate is usually double than other sail dates.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in any responses on this as well, especially since we are already booked for this NYE. It was the Only 4 day cruise that best fit our schedule.

We did the inaugural New Years cruise on both the Dream and the Fantasy. Great deck party with characters and DJ. Free souvenir glasses of non alcohol champagne or alcohol that the cm walk around with. They also walk around with trays of mini snacks. noise makers and hats. We had a wonderful time on both ships....Although we felt the Dreams party was a little better.

Also on both inaugural cruises and booked for the Fantasy again to ring in 2014. The prices for the next cruise have been crazy. Many people on the last cruise tried to book on board for the next cruise and they were priced out at that time. We booked right after they came out and it was reasonable at that time. We wouldn't be able to afford it at this point.

It is a good time and they do a NYE party with fireworks. No fireworks on pirate night. They have free champagne at midnight with hats and noise makers. You get a poster and a small box of chocolates. The Christmas decorations are still up.

Is it worth double? No way. Free champagne (all of the other food is free on the cruise), hats, poster and chocolates are not worth it. We cruise because that is the only week that I have all of my kids available to go and my younger DD misses a few days of school in Jan. since they start back Jan 2. It is all about supply and demand. Others like us can only cruise this week. That is why there aren't many cabins available and the cruise is still 9 months away.

The ship is close to capacity (many kids) and it is very crowded vs other times to cruise. If you have the 18-21 yo crowd, it is a good time to go as last year there must have been 25 or more kids that age that hung around together.

It is a fun time to go, don't get me wrong, but the cost really isn't worth it if you are able to go at other times.

Thanks for the replies! I had to ask. I love the DCL experience but don't feel like spending double (for our family) for what you'll are describing. But this is on our 'list', just not anytime soon

Thanks again!

We did the 2003-04 NY cruise on the Magic. Yes, it was expensive, but it was the best New Years Eve party ever.

Although, following the typical Disney cruise pattern at 12:05 am everyone was off to bed! It as the only night I think anyone on the ship was up past 10 pm

Yes, I called it a poster since, without a frame, it is more poster than lithograph in my opinion.

Booked it!

I'm sure it will be fun and I'm now looking forward to it as well - just got off the phone with our TA and booked it! Got a 10% CC discount plus some OBCs so it's actually become a bargain (okay, by DCL standards!)

Did our first cruise this past Jan on the Magic - now counting down the months/weeks/days until New Years!!

We are booked on the 12/28 NYE cruise on the Fantasy. We booked back in June before the prices went sky high.

Thanks Matthew. We are going to surprise the boys on Christmas - if I can keep quiet.
