He probably hates it and will tell us all to walk all of it :-)

Seriously, I love him, have met him on several occasions and even attended one of his 3-hour running schools tied in to a local half-marathon. Taking walk breaks early & often is the only way I made it through the marathon. I race half marathons & did the full using a 90 second:30 second run:walk ratio.

How quickly did the dumbo challenge sell out?? Isn't true they offer less entires to those races?? How worried should we be about it selling out on day one??

Dumbo opened to a select group first. Not sure if it was disney visa or Annual Passholders. Registration opened to the public about a week later. It opened to the public at noon. When I tried to register at 5 pm that evening it was sold out.

Holy moly! I have decided to just do the 10K. Good luck to everyone!

For Dumbo it was the 10k portion that sold out first. I could have still signed up for the half by itself when I was looking I think the half sold out either later that evening or the next morning. I'm not sure how that translates to WDW. Not sure if the 10k in January will have more slots.

Same here--though skipping attempting this next year as I am still not 100% after an injury in December of last year. I think training for full in January would not be best for my recovery. That gives me plenty of time to gather 4 throw-away garments in case I need them for the 4 races! Can't get the Goofy 2010 weather out of my mind!

I was injured last November-December as well (a few dumb training mistakes) and I'm finally been getting back to normal training the past 6 weeks or so. Injuries suck! I'm planning for a honeymoon this Jan, so methinks there will be no honeymoon (or wedding!) if I tried to run Dopey in that time frame

I wasn't there in 2010...but I would rather 30 temps then 80 degrees on marathon day!

also, I think one the reasons Dumbo sold out because it's a challenge, but it's quite attainable. Dopey, on the other hand, is a different beast. I would imagine to run 48 miles in 4 days, you have to be comfortable averaging 50-60 miles/week at least! I think Dopey will sell out quickly, but not nearly as quickly as Dumb.

Hope you're right. I just want to do one little, itty bitty race.

I don't think you have to average 500+ miles per week to do the Dopey. I was running 35+ miles per week and did the unofficial Dopey of 42.4 miles.

well a 500+ week would be pretty bad@$$...I don't even think an elite will log that We are all an experiment of one - what works for person a, doesn't work for person b. I just know it takes a decent mpw average for me personally to get into marathon shape, and that's without running a 5k, 10k, and a half marathon on consecutive days before!

The Dumbo Challenge sold out first - there were 5000 entries total. 3500 were presold, the rest were gone in less than an hour

then the 10K sold out - not sure the exact # of entries for that one but it was sold out within the afternoon

then the 1/2 marathon sold out - I think DL 1/2 has a cap around 15-18,000 runners and sold out in less than 20 hours

then the 5k and kids races sold out

the whole weekend was sold out through Active site in less than 24 hours

There are still entries available through travel partners and charities. From all accounts WDW Marathon weekend is not going on sale to anyone early yet except for if you do the Runner's World Challenge for 2x the price and that isn't until next Tuesday. DL had early entries at WDW weekend, Tinkerbell 1/2, several RnR races, Disney Visa holders and Annual Passholders. No word yet on any of these fronts as of yet.
I think it will sell out and quickly but not nearly as quickly as DL.

The # I heard floated around for the DLR 10K is 8500 which to my knowledge includes the 5000 dumbos... No idea how accurate that is but even if it excludes the dumbo kids thats a tiny race..

LOL! Ooops! Sorry about that typo! 500 miles a week would be beyond elite! Only The Flash could manage that one! Hahaha

You are very correct. Running is an experiment of one. I did, in fact, run several double and triple training runs in November/December to help me prepare for the Dopey while keep my weekly miles to 35+. It really helped me to get comfortable running on tired legs.

I was just sharing my optimism.
