Normally about a year in advance. Never less than 6 months in advance in 10 cruises.

We booked our first one a year to the day. Wasn't planned but just a funny thing that happened.

We've booked two 14 months out and one that was only 2 months out. We couldn't pass up a great *GT rate. Both ways have their advantages, it just depends on the situation and what itinerary you're looking at.

We book through a travel agent. The TA price is the same price as Disney but the TA offers on board credit. We got quotes from multiple places and Dreams Unlimted had the best OBC so we went through them. The OBC credit is worth it to my family to not have control of making changes ourselves. And the TA has been very helpful in answering my questions, even when our cruise is a year away.

Our first cruise we booked 2.5 months before the sail date...a bit too soon for me as I love to plan and it just felt a little rushed for me (I love the excitement of a big countdown)
Our next trip is a little over 5 months away which now seems like forever since we just got back yesterday and I cannot wait to get back on the dream

We are booked for a Nov 2014 cruise and the price has already gone up slightly. I have an app on my phone with the countdown:-)

Sorry, I am French speaking. What does OBC mean ?

What about the deposit by paying it to the TA ? Is it fully refundable as well ?

OBC stands for On Board Credit, and it is basically money that is credited to your account that you can spend on board the ship.

Your deposit is refundable whether you go through a TA or book by yourself.

Our 3rd cruise is in May '13. We booked last month. Previous cruise in Jan '13 was booked about 3 months out. First cruise in 09 was about 4 months out. I'm not a firm believer in waiting years for a vacation. We travel at off peak times, so the price isn't usually too bad, even at just a few months out. We go to WDW more often than we cruise and have booked a vacation 6 weeks out wth free dining. We also don't do full price cruises. Our 1st was a KSF, 2nd was an IGT rate, and our next one is 20% off.

I have tried booking far in advance, but I always end up cancelling. I really can't plan a vacation more than a few months in advance. I did book 5 months out, but only because they were offering some good pricing and OBC credit for September sailings on the Dream. I normally book about 4-6 weeks in advance. My kids are homeschooled so we have the advantage of vacationing during the off season. I haven't noticed the huge price increases that people talk about. I don't really see a big advantage to booking early if your sailing during the off season.
