When to book?

I just booked flights for Oct, this will be our first visit to Universal. Our 7 and 8 year olds love Harry Potter, so we had to fit in a visit Anyway, we're thinking a 3 night stay, Sat to Tues. Is there a "best" time to book? Specific sales/deals to watch for? I know how to plan for Disney but this is all new to me...

you said your trip to the darkside will be october.

book now so you can secure your room and hotel.
hhn happens in late sept and all of october. (weekends)

hotels can fill up on standard and other types of rooms for the weekends.
weekend rates are higher than weekdays.

if you do not find the hotel/room type you want, keep rechecking.

peeps cancel reservations all the time and those rooms go back into the availability on the website.
or you can call for reservation information as it will be current info you recieve.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been checking things out and have a Question...what's a "Refreshment Pantry"? I'm hoping for $450 a night there's a fridge involved!

So if I book now and find a better deal later, can I ask for it to be applied to the reservation? I like the thought of reserving now, as I'm thinking of the Jurassic Park one and I don't know how many there are...

the mini bar only keeps items cool and not usable for storing your items in it.

go to walgreens that is near by and purchase a styrofoam chest.
they are cheap.

fill it with ice from the hotel floor ice machine.
place your items in that and place it in the bathtub in your room.

many homies go that route.

Since the OP is looking at the Jurassic Park suite, and since the only mention I found of "refreshment pantry" on the Loews site with the suites, is it really just a minibar? That's just wild. Is there really no fridge in the suites?

hospitality suite has the fridge.

Hospitality Suites

Ideal for private entertaining, the oversized Hospitality Suites feature entertainment areas, a conference table, a service pantry with refrigerator, and a full bath. The 670 square foot parlor also features an adjoining 335 square foot bedroom. A second adjoining 335 square foot bedroom can also be reserved to create a two-bedroom suite for a total of 1,340 square feet.
