Disney Dream Cabin 5550

Hi everyone! Sailing on first Disney Cruise in a few weeks in the 4E cabin 5550. I know it's a regular size room w/ extended verandah which is mostly exposed to those above.

Has anyone either stayed in those Deck 5, 4E cabins that have the oversized verandahs? Or anyone familiar with the deck 4-5 region that has any tips/advice??

Tia!

You understand this category well.
And I sense you seek details. So ....

[this info is Dream Class.(Dream & Fantasy)]

Have you seen these exterior photos below from this thread?
http://www.disboards.com/showthread....=dream+special

Did you know that three of these 4e's have huge balconies that are not HA. The verandas are three times the size of the regular cat 4e extended? 5052, 5650, 5150 (but Pepe's door is attached).

5052; http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...ps52fd06e7.jpg

5150; http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2990627

5650; http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...4&postcount=13

One stateroom link indicates balcony dividers could be opened during high winds periods. Absolutely. This echos my experience looking down to the 4e's thinking wow, nice jogging track.

So if booked in a 4e, realize the divider may be opened during voyage at any time. So your balcony could be open to others in theory. However, as seen in the photos, even if open you still have three times the depth private without the divider door closed. Also private is relative as all 5 decks above can look down on you. You do still have that four feet covered recessed area against the slider, as all balconies have though. And even if said veranda divider is opened, you still have 7 feet minimum of private space, before hinge/ door in veranda partition. If closed add almost 4 feet.

The 4e's also have a larger veranda partition door located closest to the sea, exposed more to the wind and elements than any other.

On sailings now they tend to open / secure doors, such as these loose panels, so in high winds / seas they loose less of them.

So be aware of these variables if booked in a 4e on Dream Class vessels.

Happy cruising

HTH

You will probably get a lot of different opinions on this, but we have stayed in one of the 4e balconies on the Dream and absolutely loved it! I booked my cruise for this May in July of last year because 5650 was available. Deck 5 is convenient to everything, and it was nice being close to the Aft elevators.

Just booked 5550 on the Dream for October, so I'm very curious to hear what you think about it when you get back!

My family also booked (connecting) 5548 and 5546, so I'm hoping we will be able to open up all the partitions on the balconies to make one big one.

Quick question: since the 4E balconies extend so far out, is that fact that people can look down on you generally viewed as a "bad" thing? Other than a privacy issue (like don't walk out naked!), why might someone not want that? There is still some private space back closer to the door, isn't that right?

Thanks!

Would someone mind sharing the cost of these extended Verandah rooms? I would love to book on in the future, but wonder how much more it is from a regular Verandah room. TIA

The only thing we've found with verandahs that are so open to the rooms or deck above is that it's a little unnerving to glance up and see people looking down on you. We've had people snacking up above who've accidentally dropped chips (grapes once!) down on us, and we've had people ask us how they can get to "that deck"....them thinking it was a public area. LOL!
Yes, the doors open, but it creates quite the wind tunnel, so take something with you to help keep the doors from slamming back and forth. Some people use one of the deck chairs, but then the door bangs the chair all the time.

There would be approximately a foot or two of coverage overhead, near the door and walls of the ship. If it rains, you'll still get wet standing under it, but it's true that you'll have that little bit where no one above can see you.

The cost of these extended verandahs is the same as any other room in the same category....but they sell out quickly.

I'm in 5546 on the Dream in November so I'd love to hear what you guys thought of it when you get back.

I was just reading another thread and am now worried the 04E is smaller than I thought and wondering if I should upgrade up. We have 4 people total.

How many people where in your cabin? We have 5546 booked and have 2 adults and 2 kids.

We sailed in this cabin December 2011 and really enjoyed it. We also had friends on either side of us and all 3 verandas can be opened up which was awesome. You just have to ask your room steward to open them,

We booked a VGT on the Dream last February and were assigned a 4E room near the aft elevators. We loved the location and the extended verandah. We actually rarely saw anyone on the verandahs above us, so we used all of the space. If it bothers you, you can always sit in the area right outside the sliding door.

The extended verandah was great, but we decided for our upcoming cruise to book a 5C room. Even though we enjoyed the extra space, it was not worth it to us to pay several hundred dollars more for a 4E. We are a family of 3, but if we had a 4th person I'd probably book a cat 4A-4D.

There have been photos posted in other threads, but here's ours (room 5162):

I, too, was in 5162 a few months ago. The verandah space was amazing. But the room did feel a little tiny compared to the verandah. It was not a true cat 4 (no round tub). Also, no pull down bunk. i actually just upoaded some pics to cruiselinerooms.com of this room.

Disney Dream, Stateroom 5162

Here are the pictures:

Personally, I loved the room and the location. But, I wouldn't book it if it were more than 2-3 people. I'm going on the Dream in 2 weeks and we have a 4D room. I already know I'm going to be let down by the verandah. I'm spoiled by the 4e room. :-)
