van rental pickup at port

Hi!

Planning a cruise in November and I will be coming down a few days prior to the cruise to stay with a friend. I'm planning on renting a van for the few days prior and then was going to drive the rental to the port and have the van rental company pick up the van there. I called DCL to check whether or not this was acceptable before renting and of course, they said no.

My dilemma is this (and perhaps someone here on the boards can help me out with a better plan): Both my sister and I are disabled and in scooters so we need an accessible van rental. Since my friend lives in Orlando, we will be able to stay at his house to help keep costs down. Since DCL won't allow me to leave the van rental there at the port for pickup, does anyone have an idea what to do in order to get us to the port as cheaply as possible on the day of embarkation?

Thanks!

Joy

The problem is the parking does not belong to Disney. It belongs to The Port authority (I think) so it is not open all the time. It's open only on the days the ships come in. You can only enter if your name is one the list that you're are sailing on that ship. Could you work with the rental agency and have them meet you outside the port and then drop you off.

Or try calling the parking area
Here is a link to their site:

http://www.portcanaveral.com/cruising/parking.php

this is from their site call the number here and see what they say

DISABLED PARKING spaces are available and the fee is waived for vehicles that have special equipment, such as ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls; or display the Florida Toll Exemption permit. Call 800-983-2435, extension 2 to apply for an exemption form.
