Spin off: Companion Bathrooms

Per the "Should boys go in women's restrooms" thread, I've seen many people reference companion bathrooms. I realize they have them in WDW, but I rarely see them anywhere else.

Here in my town, thinking of all the groceries, department stores, restaurants, etc, I can only think of one where I have seen such a bathroom and that's Target.

We're unable to go on very many vacations, so I haven't been a lot of places recently to see if they've popped up in more places, but we did recently go to the Smoky Mountains, and I don't recall seeing any in any of the places we went there.

I'm in central kentucky. Where do you live/have you been and have you seen many companion bathrooms?

To my knowledge, I've never seen one anywhere.

I've seen "family" bathrooms at Target, the YMCA, and Cabela's. Only ones that come to mind.

I have not lived in the US on over 4 years, but back then pretty much very mall I went in had one. Target and some grocery stores, most rec centers and every airport.

Here in Germany, all teh highways rest stops have a "handicapped" room, which would be the equivalent of a companion. Also most train stations, all airports, the mall and many of the public restrooms in tourist areas. Then again, the norm here is that men clean the women's rooms and women the men and no one closes them or thinks a thing of it, most spas are no clothing allowed, changing clothes quickly in places where others of either gender may see is not a big deal, etc Someone being in the "wrong" room here would not be as abnormal as in the US.

No Companion restrooms but I've seen quite a few Family restrooms.

I'm considering family restrooms and companion restrooms to be basically the same thing.

It must be a regional thing, because like I said, except for Target, I've never seen any here. Oh, the YMCA has a separate locker room for people who are helping an individual who cannot take care of themselves.

Really? The main restrooms are usually close by the food court & most of the 'major' stores have one for customers. JCP & Sears in our mall have restrooms close to the fitting rooms, Sears has one in the auto repair waiting room.

Most airports have them as well, they are great for this reason.

Sometimes there is a big difference between the two. The family restrooms at my local mall have more than one toilet in them, and one of those toilets is very low to the ground. WDW has what they call companion restrooms, and in those the toilets are higher up, and there are grab bars to make things easier.

There are very nice bathrooms in our mall with a large nice companion room right next to them. Have them in Targets here, of course, but haven't noticed them anywhere else, but also haven't looked for/needed them.
