Things to Do in Key West

If you were in Key West with a few teenagers for only a few hours during the morning, what would you take them to?

Also, if doing a tour which trolley service would you recommend?

BTW - we don't have unlimited funds.

Depending on their ages and what they've been exposed to in school, they might find the Hemmingway House interesting.

I highly recommend the Butterfly garden. It was well worth the trip. Family of 3 cost was 24.00 for all of us. Also they may want to head down to the southern most point. If my memory serves me correctly the Butterfly Garden is right around the corner from southern most point. There are lots of places to shop. I always find things to buy. I am Happy to be on my Disney Cruise in less then 3 weeks,But not happy we will be bypassing Key West. I guess the Fantasy is to big! My Plans are to remain on the ship 90% of the time anyway! Have fun!

Take them to the kino sandal factory and let them pick out a pair of sandals to be made while they wait. Less than $10 per person if I remember and so comfortable.

We did the morning Danger Charters tour when we were there in January. Sailing, snorkeling, and kayaking. Snacks and drinks were provided, along with information about the area. The people were great.

My 10 year old even liked the Hemmingway House. Just after you buy your ticket be sure to wait for a tour. Totally worth it. Tipping is recommended. However I think that there was only one other family that did tip. It made me feel bad because we got so much more out of the tour with the guide.

On other trips we have done Trumans little white house. It was fun and informative but not as much so as the Hemmingway house.

DH and I have also been to a very interesting cemetary. You pick up a guide as you go in and it tells you about the people buried there. We enjoyed that as well.

On the same trip that we went to the cemetery we also went to the Mel Fisher museum. It was very informative.

We did the Hop On/Off Trolley - on our OWN, NOT through DCL. Gives you transportation for the whole day. You can get off where you want to, another trolley will be by in 30 minute intervals (maybe more during busier seasons). The people that run the booths and the drivers were awesome. They can point you into places of interest.

The most interesting thing for us about the Hemmingway house is the 6 toed cats (yes we are cat people ) We enjoyed the Little White House (Truman). I would think that the lighthouse would be interesting to visit. I would have liked to visit the shipwreck museum, but we ran out of time. Key West was a very good stop for us. I did my research online before we left so we knew what we wanted to do.
