Never Drove to Port Before - Luggage Question

I have always used Disney Transportation and my luggage has been taken care of. How do you Check in Luggage at a port? We are sailing out of Galveston - Have always done Port Canaveral before and DCL took care of the bus from hotel.

Pull up to the curb and they will take your luggage. Make sure your tags are on the bags. Very easy. They will point you in the right direction.

I have not cruised out of Galveston but I think it is the same as it was in Vancouver and NY where we sailed from as well as PC. You just pull up and drop off your luggage and porters take it. You don't see it again until it arrives outside your cabin. They will have scanners in the terminal for your carryons.

You will receive luggage tags with your packet prior to the cruise. They look like the airline tags that slip over your handle.

We used the porters in both Canaveral and Vancouver. In one case we forgot our tags (Canaveral) but we knew our room number and they issued us new tags there on the spot. It was very easy and the luggage was all delivered to our room -- no problems.

When can you expect to receive the tags, etc? We leave in 16 days, but haven't received anything yet.

Thanks!!

You need to call either you TA, if you used one, or DCL because you should have gotten your documents by now

Call for sure! We used a TA for our first cruise ever. Never got any documents. Stayed at Poly the night before the cruise and mentioned this. Wow this was a huge deal (no bag tags...). Poly and cruise staff spent hours getting tags hand delivered and sorting it all out. TA's response post cruise? She used me as a "test case" as she did not believe tags and stuff were important!! We rebooked on the ship and she took over that reservation!! Had a very hard time getting her removed as our TA. Lesson learned-use a bona-fide Disney Specialist.

Thanks, both of you! I'll be checking in this today with our TA. Good thing I saw this thread last night!

The Poly is a Deluxe hotel and shouldn't have needed "hours" to sort things out. We arrived at the Grand Floridian without cruise tags and bell services were amazing! On the morning of our cruise I was sitting in the lobby waiting for the cruise rep to arrive to direct the DCL transfer passengers onto the bus (and find out what to do with our tag-less luggage.) The hotel bell captain phoned DCL for us, without being asked, and handed me the phone. The phone rep asked for my cruise reservation # to confirm that yes we were legit passengers, then told us we could just take our luggage on the DCL bus with us, or have the hotel bell services put "generic" tags on the luggage for us and haul it to the ship on the DCL truck. After the phone call I went to bell services to have them tag the luggage, and they were already taking care of it.

When we got home I went through a DCL brochure I just thought was advertising and assumed like your TA that we didn't need the documents DCL mailed, because we did the on-line pre-cruise check-in. Our luggage tags were tucked inside the brochure. oops. Having the tags would have been helpful, and saved me some stress! but bell services took care of the problem like it was no big deal at all. Very professional Disney cast members.

Like pp have said, there are porters waiting outside the terminal who will load up your bags. We used a hotel shuttle but the same would be true for a car pulling up or a shuttle from your parking area. We didn't have to haul them anywhere. As soon as the shuttle pulled up, several porters were right there (since there were 3 families) to assist with the luggage. Our first piece of luggage showed up minutes after we were able to get into our room at 1:30and we had all our luggage and everything unpacked before our first seating dinner, in fact I think we had all 5 by 3:00.

We have an 11am at the port. If we show up at 10am and get dropped off, so my husband can return the vehicle. Is that enough time? Will they let us in the building?
