Why the price difference?

I sailed on a 10-night Med cruise in June 2011 and payed around $4000 for a cat 7 stateroom, which I booked about 10 months in advance. When I looked at the 12-night Med for June 2014, cat 7 the price was $8800. Am I missing something? It was an average of $400 a night in 2011 and is around $733 a night. This is for two adults.

Because they can?? Also you are comparing a 10 night to a 12 night and I am sure there are more port charges.

but, my first guess was probably right....they will ask what people are willing to pay.

Absolutely because the can.

I told my DW last year. Disney will soon switch up their itineraries and reduce the number of times to a specific port to drive up prices.

This is because there are becoming more and more destination cruisers.

Same here... huge price difference between our 11-night Med in 2011 and the 12-night Med in July 2014. The 2011 cruise was approximately $8700 (booked 10 months in advance); the 2014 cruise is $13,782. That's for the same category of room (5B), with 2 adults and 2 kids, before any discounts.

Yesterday the stock market was at its highest ever, and one of two stocks reached personal all time highs - yep, Disney.

There is no recession at Disney.

DCL will as noted, charge what the Market will bear for the cruise and product they deliverer. This goes the same for every cruise line, and business in the world, including the ones we all work for (unless of course your a non profit)..........its called free enterprize.

AKK

PS If people won't pay it, the prices will come down.

You are absolutely right and they have priced this family out of the European cruise market. I think I need a different job.

This is one of the reasons why we're doing the 7nt cruise & adding 2 nts in Barcelona. We want to be able to really do it up for the excursions and not be too stressed that there are so many.
I also found it cheaper for dh & I to have a secret verandah cabin & put the kids (teens) across the hall in an inside cabin. It also doubles our OBCs.
We'll have $800 in OBCs so it will pay for excursions in Villefranche + gratuities.

He would come on here to put down DCL just to create a stir.
He really had no interest in actually cruising on DCL though he said he did.

2 extra nights, 3 years of inflation, dollar devaluation, popularity of the ships, just because the mouse can...
