opposite of the usual "what to wear" question

I have read through a bunch of threads (very interesting ones!) about what to wear in the MDRs. We are going on a 4 day, so just the one dress up night. I have the opposite problem of most of the posts I have been reading...we want to dress up, really dress up, for dinner. My question- will we look like wackos? My DS (13) loves to wear a suit. I really want to wear a formal gown as do the other women traveling with me. My DH will humor me and do whatever I say...he won't have read any stuff anyway so he has to trust me and he is a good sport!

Opinions? . Thoughts?

No, you won't look wacko. Make sure you have nice pics taken before dinner and use them for Christmas cards. That alone is enough of a reason to dress up.

When I walked into the MDR in a gown, the maitre' d gave me a look of appreciation -- he noticed, and I noticed that he noticed.

That said, DCL cruises tend to be very casual, and I haven't bothered to go "full length" since then.

We dress up every night for dinner to varying degrees. I brought a dress for every night on our Panama Canal cruise last month. (14!) I do not wear jeans to the dining room. Typically for pirate night I will wear a tropical dress, but we enjoy the special feeling of going to dinner put together.

Go for it!

You'll be fine, some people actually do dress nicely for dinner, us included! And as someone else posted, dressing up makes up for some great photo memories.

We dress up every night! I love it as an excuse to buy dresses throughout the year leading up to the cruise. ;-) But seriously, we don't get very many opportunities to dress up, so we take what we can get!

I also do not get the chance to dress up much during the year so i will be on our Formal nights. My daughter taught me never to worry about what anyone else thinks, if you feel good then do it

I will also be dressing up on pirate night although my friend won't be, her lose

Last Christmas my friends and i went to a Christmas Dinner and Dance, i decided to wear a long dress and my friends all wore nice short everyday dresses but nothing special. It turned out to be a Black Tie Evening It was not me that felt uncomfortable that evening

I would always rather be overdressed than underdressed. Know not everyone else functions this way.

I love to dress up. DH, too. Sons... Not so much. (But they do when we instruct.)
We are only on 4-night, too; but, we are doing shirts/ties & long dresses for the semi-formal night. (Not jackets, tho. They are too much to deal with packing.)

I couldn't have said it better myself My DH and I take a 7 night Cruise every February to celebrate our Anniversary and I dress up each night like it was formal or semi-formal night. My DH would rather dress casually on some of the nights but he knows how much I enjoy getting all fancied up so he humors me and puts on a nice suit each night. We have gotten so many fantastic photos!!!! We always have so many great photos because we dress up each night that we end up purchasing the photo CD so we can get all of them. I never pay alot alot for the cocktail and formal length gowns that I wear on the cruises. I am a bargain hunter and I shop all year long and usually do not pay more than $25.00 for any of my dresses - hubby is happy about that All of the restaurants on the Disney Cruiselines are so formal and beautiful that I just feel more appropriate being dressed up when I eat in them. When your dining room server meets you at the door and offers you his arm to escort you to the table - in my opinion that is very high class. Nobody will stare and you in the wrong way if you are dressed up for dinner even though the majority of people will not be dressed up except on formal and semi-formal nights. If they are staring it is probably because you look so nice in your gown so enjoy the attention and enjoy your cruise

Wear what you like, what you feel comfortable with, what you want.

You are an individual, just because "everyone else" is doing one thing or the other, doesn't mean you have to.

Even if it's a non-formal night, if you want to dress up, go for it.

There is too much focus on fitting in - people tell their kids not to give in to peer pressure but as adults, so often people are worried about "will I look out of place?"

We dress up nicely for dinner each night (pirate attire on that night). Some people will and some won't. We were the only ones at our table to dress nicely on our last cruise. Our table mates all wore very casual clothes. I guess it just depends on how you look at it. We like to make the most of our trip because to us a DCL cruise is a big deal. To others it's just a vacation so they just dress however...

We're both actually looking forward to dressing up. We don't get an opportunity to do it often and wifey went out and got nice dress for formal night. If you want to dress up, do it up!

We tend to dress up a little nicer on all nights. The girls will wear casual dresses or slacks and a blouse. The boys wear docker-type pants and polos or button down shirts, etc. Then we really go for it on formal and semi-formal nights. I have never felt funny being dressed up a little more.

For our upcoming cruise we decided that we are going to skip formal night in the MDRs in exchange for an evening by the pool, riding the aqua duck, etc. My DS is really disappointed about one thing. He wanted to wear his top hat (he loves all kinds of hats but recent added a top hat to his collection) and planned on wearing it with his suit on formal night. So instead he will be dressed in his dress pants, shirt, tie, vest and top hat for semi-formal night Luckily it is a magician's hat that folds flat so we will be able to pack it in the suitcase. Otherwise he would be wearing a top hat on the plane. This is the same kid that has been wearing fedoras to school almost every day this past year. LOL - I love my crazy kid

Yes, we dressed up every night for our Alaska cruise. It was the only request I made of my family! I really wanted some nice family photos.
