Disney Cruise Line has now made sure you cannot save someone's "phone number". There used to be a shortcut. They are keeping an eye on those phones.....they need better ones!

Outdated compared to what? Its certainly a good way for families to keep in touch while on board but in separate parts of the ship. Are you looking for more functionality? Ease of use?

The wave phones get so beat up that if smart phones were used the screens would probably get super oily/dirty and cracked. I mean...its not like you actually need to text that much.

My problem with the wave phones was that I got a message to pick up my daughter from the clubs on Thursday when the message was sent Saturday night. Oops.

Actually it is much easier to text then to call so what I am looking for is a phone that is easier to text on...really I can't remember the last time I text on a phone with out a keyboard.

Having just taken a RCCL cruise and using walkie talkies to try to keep track of the kids, I can't wait to be on the Fantasy with wave phones. We loved them on the Dream and thought they worked well!

They are absolutely better than nothing, especially when traveling with a large group.

They charge $250 each for a lost wave phone. Can you *imagine* what the cost would be if they were smart phones???

They are not ideal but function well enough to be acceptable for us! If DCL goes to iPhones, our cruise fare will increase again.... :-)

Worked fine for us - without them I would not let my kids have had as much freedom as they did.
