Melting Pot with kids

The only time we go is friday and saturday nights and always plenty of kids there-we had my daughters birthday party there on a saturday night and there was another kids party the same time

If you go to the melting pot with your kids, what do you usually order? Do you have favorite choices?

I've never been but this thread is making me think it might be fun to go with my DS.

we took our kids for the first time around ages 5 & 7. They loved it. they knew what to expect, as sometimes I make cheese fondue at home.

The melting pot close to my house actually does a kids eat free on Sunday....for every adult entree ordered they let one kid order a free kid entree. makes it nice since one kid likes shrimp & the other likes chicken. worth checking to see if the one near you has a similar special!

My dd turned 11 on the 22nd of February and she picked Melting Pot for her birthday dinner. Our waiter was amazing! Dh & I each ordered a 4 course meal with the cheese fondue, salad, entree and dessert. He only charged us for 1 kids 3 course meal (everything except the salad) and she shared that with her 12 (almost 13) year old brother.
He allowed the kids to share our salads and he brought unlimited veggies, bread and apples for the cheese fondue. He even made her a special plate for the dessert that said "Happy Birthday" and then brought a smaller plate plus the bowls of strawberries for the rest of us.
It was a 2 hour event and worth every penny. She was so happy and loved her special dinner.

ok- now this thread had me craving Melting Pot! When we go we always get a table with 2 burners, even if its just me and my daughter so this way she can cook her chicken in the broth that she likes and I get the oil also just so I can make the stuffed mushroom caps! Take the mushroom cap, fill it with green goddess, dip it in the tempura batter and fry it up-- LOVE IT! A friend I go with makes brocolli bombs the same way, just puts some green goddess on the brocolli, covers it in tempura and frys it up- its very good too! We will take the potato and cut it into smaller strips and fry it up for french fries sometimes too- If we go with three people then we will order 2 entrees and usually get one chicken and one vegeterian- the goat cheese ravioli are really good (We put them in the broth not the oil) we usually swap out the tofu for more ravioli and we swap out the mushrooms (since you get them with the chicken anyway) for asparagus. I love that you can swap out anything you want that comes with each entree with something else.
Going to make reservations now today for Tuesday I think!

Your kids are the perfect age to start enjoying fondue. Any younger I'd say might be too young, especially if they are the type of kids who have a hard time sitting still. My sister brought her son once when we took our Mom out one year on her birthday, he was about 5 or 6 and way too squirmy. None of us could enjoy ourselves worrying he was going to burn himself on those hot fondue pots. But 9 I would think would be fine. Have fun!

Defineately consider their ages but have you tried it at home as sort of a fun test run? The Melting Pot was they reason we bought our fondue pots and tried it at home too. We have been doing a cheese and a chocolate fondue at home with our kids and they all know how to dip and all know to NEVER touch the pot. After doing it a few times at home they each did great and DS was actually 6 and DD#1 was 4 when we went for the first time as a family. DD#3 hasn't been to The Melting Pot yet but she can dip with and handle her fondue fork pretty well rarely drop anything in the pot DH is usually the culprit but I think it's because he like to darn near make a kabob sometimes...lol!

Just got back from dinner at the melting pot with my daughter. Sat next to another family with little kids. Loved their new menu! I got the trio of spinach artichoke ravioli and potstickers and chicken. My daughter ate the chicken and potatoes and I ate the other stuff. We got the peanut butter chocolate for dessert. Was very good. The trio entree cost 20.00 and I think the chocolate was 16.00. We are both stuffed for 36.00!

And as we sit here at the melting pot again i am thinking about this thread-there is a ten year olds birthday party going on here with about 12 kids-man are they noisy! I can see 5 booths from where i am sitting and three of them have kids at them. Someone someplace in here has a crying baby too- sure not peaceful today! And the kid at the booth behind us is standing up looking over the wall at us!!

I'm a tiny bit late to the party, but OP, I wanted to let you know that yes, we have brought our DD to The Melting Pot. She was 6 the first time we brought her, and we've taken her at least once a year since (she's now 9). In fact, I brought a WHOLE GIRL SCOUT TROOP to the Melting Pot for an outing. The manager helped up earn our Snacks badge. It was great!

I think as long as your kids are well behaved, can keep still, and quiet for a long time (we have spend over 3 hours for a meal... and a couple hundred bucks!!!) it should be no problem. The first time we took DD, we came prepared with coloring books, pipe cleaners, and books to keep her busy. We were very careful to not disturb other guests. (my number one pet peeve in restaurants is listening to kids throw tantrums - hello! Please take them outside/bathroom/car!)

Hope you go and it's a good time. If you want to just give it a try, go there one night just for dessert and see how your kids do. Then next time you can do a more thorough meal.

Now I miss the Melting Pot... :-( They closed the one that was near our house, and the next closest one is 45 mins away.
