Need thoughts, feedback, please.... resort, dining, park..

My DH and I are taking our DD to DW for her 16th. The trip is in a month's time and we're staying at POR, Royal room w/garden view.

Earlier this week my mother-in-law passed away and during a conversation with my father-in-law re: what he'd do by himself, we suggested that he come with us on the trip. (Our DD is a very, very family-oriented young lady and I think she'd be thrilled to have her Pop-pop with us).

My father-in-law initially said no, but he's been bring bringing this up with his friends, so I think he is considering. He is able to get around, however, we would ideally like to find him a scooter or something to get around the parks.

I looked on the website last night and unfortunately, the standard rooms at POR are sold out. Are there options for cots in the Royal rooms?

Second thought... my DH, DD and I are doing the Dining Plan and have made ADR's. My father-in-law is not a big eater... two questions... would I need to cancel my ADR's and rebook or can we simply tell them when checking in that we have an extra guest and we'll pay for his meals.

Many, many thanks for any feedback, input on things I haven't considered, etc.... my head is going in million directions right now.

You won't have to cancel your ADR's. I'm pretty sure that you can call the dining reservations number and add one more person. But I wouldn't do it until you are 100% sure he is coming.

ETA: Since you have the dining plan, and if you end up having your father-in-law in your room, you may have to get the dining plan for him, too. I think you can prevent this by just adding him to your room at check in. I would double check on this point.

Thanks so much... I was also thinking about getting him his own room... from everyone's extensive knowledge, if the site is saying no rooms available, is any remote chance Disney might have one single room "in reserve"?

You can call Disney and ask about a room. The website is very unreliable and people have been able to get rooms when they make a phone call. But if you are going at spring break, there is a chance there won't be a room available. It is hard to predict.

Are there any avail POR rooms for your stay? If so I'd go ahead and book one so he's at least at the same resort and you can keep looking for a Royal Room so there's a chance he'd be in the same area Rather be in a different area at the same resort than a different resort all together.

Do you need DME? If so you have to add him before so he's able to get DME.

I think this is sound advice.
