Why am I so dumb!?!?

I cruised in December and didn't do an OBC because I had ended up buying *GT rates for all three of my previous cruises and just figured that is what I would be doing again. Well, now the Sept 2014 WBTA has come out and I just booked it. The rates are great, but I could have saved $400 if I had just booked a dummy cruise on board!!!!!

So of course, now I am scheming, if the rates don't go up for a while, and I get a chance to do a DIFFERENT cruise between now and then, I would save $400 just by going on another cruise! I mean, really, I almost HAVE to book another cruise just so I can save the $400!1

BTW, this is a totally rhetorical question, I really don't need anyone to answer, I just wanted to vent and perhaps encourage people to do the OBB even if they don't think they are going to use it.

Only had that feeling the first time. I wanted to book but DH insisted we wouldn't be back for a couple years and didn't want DCL to have the money. Well two weeks after we got home he asked if I "minded" if we went earlier. LOL! Never again!

Do you get the OBC and discount on concierge rooms?

I've heard no. Which bums me out since I don't think I'll ever book anything smaller than a Cat T on DCL.

I believe you can get the OBC but not the discount.

Isn't concierge is locked in with a non-refundable deposit with no changes allowed? If so, that would kill the idea of making a dummy reservation -- you'd have to be sure what you pick.

"Offer valid for Categories 4-11 only. Offer not valid for concierge level categories, 2-night cruises, IGT, OGT and VGT Categories with Restrictions..."

You just book a standard dummy date in a normal room and then change it to a concierge room when you know for sure what you want. You'll lose the 10% but not the OBC.

Some people have had the OBC applied when moving a dummy to concierge. Never the 10%.

No. DCL onboard booking OBC is determined by length of cruise only. Less than seven nights = $100, seven nights or more = $200. If you book with a TA a concierge room should get you additional OBC based on the fare you pay.

I booked a Cat T, 4 nights on the Dream and was able to change the date by a week. Then, I decided to go on a 7 night, and switched to the Fantasy. No penalties.

If its any consolation, your experience has taught me to budget "future cruise fee" into the vacation budget. I'm gonna do the OBB in April for 2014 EBPC, but I could have saved who knows how much if I had booked a "dummy cruise" when I was on the Dream in January (Member Cruise) and been able to transfer/book the day the itinerary was announced.

We are no better prepared to avoid the "next time".
