It makes sense to go to the medical center because you will need proof from them that you were quarantined in order to file a claim with your travel insurance. If you are sick enough to have to stay in your stateroom for a couple days, why not get reimbursed for those days?

Had patches and several medications that require RX with me.

They ask if you have been sick when you check in, do not answer yes. You will not go. Do not says you have a little cold, rehearse with your children. They have to go to counter to have picture taken. If you leave ship and come back your picture is checked in computer coming and going.
I am honestly appalled by this. It is absolutely infuriating. No one wants to miss out on a vacation they are looking up to, but you are so selfish that you would jeopardize other peoples vacation just so you don't miss yours? Put yourself on the other side. Would you want other people to do this and risk the health of you and your family and your vacation time? Very poor advice for others and horrible what you are teaching your children.

I get migraines, know my "cocktail" to get me out of it & all. (I see the ER once a year!) Do I need a letter from my Dr saying this so I don't get quarantined & not be able to leave the ship? Anyone know the best way about this?

they don't quarantine people for non-communicable problems, and as far as I know migraines aren't caught from others. Just because you go to the ship's doctor doesn't mean you will get quarantined.

If you know what medication you need, take it with you and save yourself a big bill.

Not that easy, what works for me has to be intravenously given. Can't exactly carry that around! Lol
So you don't think I will need some type of note? Vomiting & pain won't make them flag me no matter what I tell them?

I have no idea. How do you normally travel anywhere? Do they believe you?

I imagine that if you need intravenious drugs you are going to be pretty much in bed anyway, so quanantined or not, you aren't going anywhere.

Probably wouldn't hurt to take a note from your Dr. Something you can easily get and then you wouldn't have to worry if you do have an issue on board.

I don't travel a lot, no.
Around here the ER makes you do all these tests to make sure your not gaveling a stroke or anything, no matter if you tell them your history or not!
And yes, initially I will be in bed, but dont want to be stopped from leaving the ship the next day if Im better.
I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience is all?!?

I think she was only confined to her cabin for 24 hours. Do a search when they put that feature back up.

Sorry to hear your mom was quarantined.

For those opposed to traveling with a RX- we did, it went very smoothly, and I am quite happy we did. My daughter had tubes placed in her ears (for recurring ear infections) and one has since fallen out. During the month of December (our cruise was in Jan) she had 2 ear aches- one resulting in another burst ear drum. She had already been on meds for 3 days when it burst. Needless to say, I wasn't comfortable traveling for 2 weeks in a different country knowing my daughters history. Our family doctor prescribed an antibiotic and the pharmacist gave us the meds and a separate bottle with the correct amount of distilled water in it. She showed us the best way to mix it, and off we went. I could not imagine flying with an ear infection! Thankfully, we didn't need them! However, if at any point she started complaining about her ears, I would not have hesitated to start the meds. We also saw her specialist just before we left to make sure her ears were ok prior to flying.

Lying and putting other passengers at risk is not a good idea to spread.

The questionaire specifically asks if you had any symptoms such as diaharrea, cough, sneezing, body aches, etc, AND fever within the last 24 hours.

If you did, you better stay off the ship. That's what insurance is for...

If it is going to require them giving you a specific medication, definitely have something with you to let them know what has to be done from your doctor. I would actually call DCL and try to contact the medical group to confirm that they will have what you need.

Even if you have a note, how would DCL medical staff know that the vomiting is caused by migraines and not by a virus without testing? Dr. not or not, you can get a stomach virus...

If it makes you more comfortable to have a note from your doctor, then by all means bring it. However, if your own local ER repeatedly puts you through tests before administering IV med for migraine - and assuming you have a "history" there - then I wouldn't expect anything different onboard the ship. As to whether or not they might quarantine...nobody can guarantee yes or no; if they can are able to decisively determine it is a migraine, then no reason to quarantine because they would then be certain you weren't going to transmit illness to anyone else. If there are other variables in play and it's not a clear-cut migraine issue - you might be quarantined but likely only for a day to see if you are better. I also suffer migraines so I literally understand your concern, however it's just a risk. Can you take anything oral? (I can't.) Do you know your triggers? Do your best to avoid them and hope for an uneventful cruise - in my experience stressing over it would only serve to bring on a migraine.

Enjoy your cruise!
