Disneyland at New Years
Our summer trip is getting bumped to December.
So.... Disneyland the week of New Years. Are we crazy? We've done WDW on July 4th and stood immobile in the sea of people during fireworks, so we're not afraid of crowds. But is there anyone who has done both and can give me an idea of how crowds compare?

As for NYE itself, Imagine Main Street shoulder to shoulder with someone directly in front of you am someone else directly behind you --- up and down the entire street. Then add in a few more 1000 people. Happy New Year! But, it's NYE in Disneyland and you have to do it once... just to see it for yourself. It is THE busiest day of the year, without question. - Dreams Last edited by Disney Dreams; 02-26-2013 at 01:40 PM. |

I did NYE with my family in 2009 and boy was it packed! It was something on my bucketlist, so I'm glad I was able to experience it! Main street was too crowded, so we went to the Small World mall to watch the fireworks, which was still pretty crowded, but a little more manageable than the hub

My DGD9 and I did NYE this last year. Busiest I've ever seen. Even the mens rooms had lines out the door. The lines for Pirates went to the HM 3 times. By early afternoon the lines to get into DL went to the CA turnstiles.

We were also there NYE in 2009 and I can not believe the number of people. Thankfully mil was with us & took the boys back to our room around 6pm because they were beat (it was our last day & we'd been up early for our MM). I would not have wanted to try & keep track of any children that evening. It was all I could do to keep a hold of dh's hand.
In the 6 hours we were in the park after the boys left we rode 2, maybe 3 rides, had a Dole Whip, watched the fireworks, did a tiny bit of shopping, and that was it. Just don't think you'll get much done, or get anywhere fast.

I'm thinking we may do California Adventure that day after reading the thread that was linked to. We're not going so much to do New Years at a particular park, it just happens to be that New Years is when we can go.

I did it once many a moon ago, in the early 90's when I was a HS student. I vowed never to do so again, and never have and never will.

My visit was during a time when late FP when allowed, and since it is not anymore, it may be a tad more challenging, but I believe still doable. By next NYE I think we will have a good handle on FP return times and can give better advice. I hope you decide to go!

We've done both and survived! July 4th is definitely busy, but Christmas week and NYE at DL is insane (but in a good way!). This last year we started NYE at DL, then spent the evening at DCA (lots of live music, dancing, really fun!), then did the countdown in DtD at the West Stage with the band and danced the night away. Just be prepared for the crowds, have a backup plan, and you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the responses!
Unless the economy crashes again we will be going. I'm so excited now!
