Onboard Account and Gratuities

Sailing out on the 2nd...yay! I heard you can call ahead and pre-pay gratuities???Also, can you "pre-load" your onboard account before you get to the port. I will be only carrying cash, debit and Disney gift cards (credit card for emergency only!) so I would like to avoid the initial stop at the Guest Services desk on the first day. What are my options? I understand I can go daily to add $$ to my account but I would like to avoid that and just relax for the first few couple days.

Depending on the amount of the gift card, you can always put that on your account when you register online. When you get on the ship, you can always tell them not to make charges to the card over a certain amount. After that point, you can give them another card or put down cash. That's what I did when I used a gift card on one of my DCL trips. Once I knew I had exhausted the card, I went to guest services and gave them another cc. I didn't have any problems.

Yes we prepaid or gratuities, if you don't they automatically charge your onboard account. We used cash for our account they set us up with a 300$ limit unless you put more down to start. You can also do as the PP said set it up online for credit cards etc.

You can also call DCL and give yourself a "gift" of onboard credit. I usually figure out how much tips, excursions, pictures, spa, drinks, etc... I will spend on the ship and buy myself an OBC for that amount. I also have a CC on file but I am sure you can do that with cash on the ship also. Have fun!

I booked through DCL and it says Gratuities Are Not Included...just taxes and fare. I got excited for a minute bc ours is about $300. That would have been nice spending cash!

Yes I got excited as well hoping things had changed. I found my payment summary it's cruise, transportation and taxes only no word about tips.

This is exactly what I usually do. I pay about 99% of the cruise with the Disney gift cards through my 5% off Target Red card and therefore prepay the gratuities and the DCL transfers ahead of time. I usually have some leftover and just have that applied to the account. When I arrived on the last sailing, there was a card in my room saying I had a credit. It was like it was a gift or something but it was gift I gave myself lol

When I've prepaid my gratuities and the transfers - I call DCL specifically and say I'd like to pay this and that - that way when the updated invoice is sent it shows these have been taken care of. Your KTTW card will also show a symbol that you've paid for the transfers already as well.

Transfers are between the airport and the terminal and vice versa, which are typically $35.00 each way, per person.

Neither of my reservation confirmations for April or November 2013 have a Pre Paid Gratuities line on them.

Is it possible your travel agent set it up for your trip so it would be one less thing for you to worry about?

When I booked on board they added the prepaid gratuities. I found it very odd at the time. I could have had them taken off but didn't worry about it because it was just as easy to prepay them then to have them added to my on board account. I haven't sailed on that particular cruise yet, but I imagine I could still adjust the values up or down just like any other on board expense.
