Why do you pick the Dream?

We have never been on a 3 or 4 day cruise on DCL.

We have done a 3 day weekend on another line.

But is it enough time on the BIG SHIP

And why do you decide to do it over the Fantasy?

We chose the Dream primarily because it was the only ship offering a 4-night at the time. We were doing a land/sea vacation and didn't want a 7-night.

As for it being a BIG ship and enough are correct that there just isn't enough time to do everything, and you have to go into it knowing that. We primarily stayed onboard at Nassau so as to have more ship-time (got off for about an hour to walk around). Choose what you want to do, and then hope/plan to return for more another time! Personally, I don't think a 3-night is long enough, but if that's what fits your schedule or budget, it's better than none!

I chose the Dream this year because my DH and I are taking a quick trip without the kids and the Dream fit the bill for a short cruise. We are familiar with the ship and know that we will not have time to do everything, so we will not be rushing to try to get everything done. We sailed on the Dream last year when they were offering 5 night cruises and loved it. We chose it then because honestly it was about $3000 cheaper for a 5 night on it versus a 7 night on what was then, the brand new Fantasy. We are sailing on the Fantasy next year and I am certain we will love it as well.
4 NIGHT MAGIC 2014 The Magic is better than the Dream.....I'll be the judge of that!

We did it because we had never been on a cruise before, and wanted to know if we would like it. Yup, we do.

For us it was
1. cost (we weren't ready to spend big $$ for the fantasy)
2. this is our kids' first cruise and we need to "test the waters" to see if they like it
3. we only have a week off and I wanted to spend some time in orlando and finally check out IOA!
4. I get seasick and I don't do well being cramped in small spaces. I'm not sure if I could handle a 7 night cruise.

We are doing a back to back on the dream next year in January because the week my husband can take vacation the Fantasy is offering the Western Caribean itinerary and we have done that each time so far so I wanted different ports to visit. If it was the eastern that week I would of chosen the Fantasy...

As a pp mentioned, we're doing a land/sea vacation and only wanted a 3 night so we could hit WDW & Universal before.

I'm hoping my H will love it so much that we can book another cruise while we're on board

This is exactly what I am considering for next year. Really, I am hoping to be able to snag a Southern on the Magic next year, but I know my chances are slim. So a land/sea it shall be!!

We went on the four-night Dream for a few reasons:

We weren't sure that we would like to cruise (we were worried about being bored or seasick)

We wanted to do Walt Disney World as well, and couldn't afford to be away that long

Cost - it was cheaper, especially if we discovered that we didn't care for cruising (see #1)

Of course, we loved the cruise, and have our 7-night booked for the Fantasy in August 2014. I think that you will find that most people have some combination of the above three reasons.
Our family of Disney nuts: Me (28) , T (29) , A (2)
WDW - 1996 (off-site), 2009 (ASM), 2012 (ASM)
DL - 2005 (honeymoon), 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014
DCL - 2012 (4-night Bahamian on the Dream)

In the works:
August 12-15th - WDW *~* August 16th, 2014 - Disney Fantasy *~* July 2015 - DL

We cruised the Dream to see if our family (meaning the kids could handle it) before booking a 7 nighter on the Fantasy. They loved it so much we booked the Fantasy and we leave in two weeks. We also decided that 3 or 4 days on the ship just isnt long enough. If you do the Thursday-Sunday it will fly by. Once you have settled in you are packing up and getting off the ship. That is no Fun

Is this CRAZY...........

My DD wont miss school, i cant blame her really.

But we really want to take a cruise with her for her 18th birthday kind of a tradition with us.

So my thought is.....

3 or 4 day cruise with her on the Dream. We get our family Tradition.
She get to see the Big ship which is new for us and then Dh and I go alone on the Fantasy. This way i get my week.

Also another plus is, i will sort o know the ship when i get on the Fantasy from being on the Dream

Does this all make as much sense to you as it does to me????

Nope, absolutely not.

I barely had time to do *anything*. Even shopping became impossible because I didn't realize how SHORT the shopping hours would be. By the time the shops were open, I was beat! We were also trying to coordinate with extended family and their kids, and it was just really hard to take time to enjoy the ship. I would not do a short cruise again unless it was truly the only thing I could do.

On the other hand, that extended family we traveled with loves the short cruise! Our first Disney cruise was their second, and they felt it was a great amount of time.
