Just made our first no-sew blanket

And I thought it came out pretty good!

It took DD, DH and I less than two hours to do. It probably would have been less if we had a table that was big enough to hold the whole thing (we made it pretty big) and scissors that actually cut!

All in all, fun to do, and pretty simple. We've always wanted to try it.

Very cute!

These are a lot of fun and super easy to make. We make ours on the floor to allow for enough room and, yes, having sharp scissors is absolutely imperative!

DD and I make one for baby showers in addition to the actual gift(s) purchased off the registry. They're so nice and soft!

This looks great! I'd call it a Duck Dynasty blanket. DD made me a Mickey Mouse one a couple years ago. Love it!

Haha, the guy we made it for is a fan of that show! I think we'll call it that!

We really did it, though, to match the colors of his room (green and brown!)

good job

Great job. We love making these. We have been doing them for years and they were great gifts for my daughters friends and we included a book too. Very popular. I have made from both kits and buying the fabric alone. We do have exceptionally sharp scissors too..

Looks great, I've never heard of these before (UK)x Can I ask (sorry if I'm being dim) is it a fleece material and you cut strips along the edge and knot them? If so, how thick do you cut the strips and how long?

My DD has made these, and I've helped on a few. My DD takes a 1"x5" strip of cardstock to use as a guide on cutting the strips that need to be knotted.

And - she "always" pins the 2 layers together (it only takes a minute and she maybe uses 6 pins. Maybe more if it is a bigger sized blanket. And she "always" cuts the two layers together.

It is a fun easy project.
And yes - it is a fleece.

Thanks. There are a few YouTube videos that show you how to do it, just look up No Sew Blankets.

There seem to be a few different ways to go about it. You can vary the size, also. We were making it for a man 6 ft tall, and wanted it to cover him fully (nothing worse than your feet sticking out of a blanket, cold ) and fit on his bed, so we used 2 1/2 yards, which seemed plenty big. We picked out two coordinating fleece materials.

We trimmed the writing off the material and made the two pieces the same size as best we could. We didn't fret if it wasn't perfect. We cut a 5" square out of each corner, then cut ~ 1" strips all around (a little bigger than thumb size). We tied them in double knots and Voila - done!

This is a good idea. I would probably pin it next time unless I had a table large enough to hold all the material - ours was slipping off one side as we turned it. (Nobody in the videos I watched used pins!) I don't know if our backs would have withstood our doing it on the floor.

Oh, and for anyone planning to make one - I didn't realize it  but apparently these are "out of season". (Not that I care cause I use blankets year round!) JoAnn Fabrics had the material 50% off.
