St. Thomas to Tortola
We are booked on the Fantasy next year and it will be our 4th stop at St. Thomas. We've already done St. John's once.
We noticed that the ferry schedule offers 50 minute rides to Tortola. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what did you do once you arrived at Tortola -- rent a car, tour group, etc.? Thanks.

We did a DCL excursion to Tortola, with Dolphins and island tour. The island is small and pretty.
Not sure about doing it on your own, you will need a birth certificate and go through customs since its British VI. WE even had to do it on the dcl excursion. It may be doable, but with customs on either end and filling out the forms, it may not be worth it. There is not a ton do on the island. |

Hi there,
I looked into doing this, however we looked at a private water taxi, however the cost ran in to many hundreds and the additional costs of taxi to red hook and duty costs made the idea too expensive. Shame as the beaches are the best I have ever been too. |

Oh well, looks like we won't be tucking another island on our belt! Back to the original plan of renting a car in St. John.

been to Tortola a number of times (it was one of my R&R options for several years)
you are not missing much I mean it is a nice island, but nothing all that special as compared to many others. Just a few nice bars and one pretty darn good BBQ place off the beaten path.... UNLESS you are there for a full moon . . . THEN things can get 'special' ..... THEN you go to Bomba's Shack! But the party doesn't start kickin' 'til midnight.... My Carib' crew would beg me to arrange our schedule to be R&R in Tortola over a full moon - so long as they could have a full next day to recover! http://www.bareboatsbvi.com/bombas_shack.html
