The reduction of the OBC for rebooking honestly killed my motivation to reach Platinum.

We had been considering taking shorter cruises annually (in addition to our "real" vacation cruise) in order to reach Platinum since they used to offer a good amount of OBC. Once they reduced that we actually started looking at other brands for their more varied itineraries.

There really should be better perks for the Platinum. I'm still gold but I'll be platinum within the next few years. I can see where that loyalty reward really means something. If one has 11 cruises with Royal Caribbean and gets so much more than 11 cruises with Disney. That makes the RC cruiser very happy while the Disney cruiser feels cheated. Not the best way to encourage repeat business or even entice people away from the competition.

This happened for me as well. Used to hold two dummies but now only one.

Please DCL please revamp this rather lame program. Another level is definitely needed.

Also, note that last week as plat, we were given a #1 boarding pass.

Exactly. We came home last year w/4 dummy cruises (2 for me, 2 for DH). Once the new rule came out we canceled 3 of our dummy cruises. So during last week's release I only had 1 to move

We go to WDW quite often since we're DVC members and would have hopped on a 3 nighter in order to extend our DVC stays (in addition to our vacation cruise) had they kept the old OBC rule.

I got #3 boarding on our last cruise and I was only gold. I don't think getting a #2 is that much better.

So very disappointed. We have two cruises this summer, a 12 day med and another 7 day alaska. We have done premium cruises all the time...long cruises during peak periods...baltic, mexican (back in 2008 when it was still popular and expensive, NYE fantasy, new york, 2 7 day caribbean, first alaskan, and a 4 day dream cruise and only because we wanted to see the boat in its first year and there weren't any longer ones.

We always get two cabins because we are a family of 5 and we always take dcl excursions. I was so happy when they gave the enhanced OBC for GOLD (and enjoyed them in NY and Fantasy) but felt it was quite a disappointment to have them reduced to the same level as silver. If they felt that the OBC were too high, perhaps they could have reduced them to $225 for GOLD and $250 for PLATINUM instead of making them all the same. I like to be recognized by the company as a faithful member. Not because I need the perks, but because when you are so devoted to a company it makes good sense to have them recognize you. Its good customer service. I also have done an ABD, WDW 5 times and DL 9 times. I love disney and yes, I want to be appreciated. I have recommended DCL to countless people (I wish they had a program giving some kickback...wow!). We've taken along other families on 3 of our cruises plus two other families have gone at other times based on our recommendation. DCL is getting lots of money their way from us. I know its just a drop in the barrel considering their billions of dollars, but loyalty should mean something.

I teach customer service and audience development at UVIC and it is so much cheaper to keep an existing client than get a new one. And if you can get your existing clients to do your marketing for you, even better.

So DCL, smarten up and make us devoted travellers feel appreciated somehow.

I think they should look at revamping their program Not take away anything anyone has already, but perhaps look at a way of giving credits for longer cruises and have another category called DIAMOND or something for those with 20+ cruises or X AMOUNT of days. Those people need to be nurtured and encouraged. A special DIAMOND dinner at PALO in the group room for all diamonds to meet each other and have free wine or some such event. The gold/platinum event is fine, but the DIAMONDS should get something else. FREE spa for the week (that wouldn't cost DCL anything), FREE Bingo games. There are all kinds of things that are cost neutral or very low cost that would make people feel appreciated!

I know that the really faithful cruisers have answered questions so wonderfully and encouraged me in my addiction. DCL should be proud of them

Whew... just my morning rant.

Slg, great response. I'm actually in pretty much the same boat as you (lol). After reading your post I was thinking that dcl really needs to hear this--have you sent an email? Please do. I plan to do so myself.

I hit platinum last September. I am mostly annoyed by the onboard OBC reduction. The rest doesn't bother me all that much.

I have one more cruise that should be "grandfathered" because it was booked before the OBC change and has not been changed or modified.

Anyone have any idea the best person to send an email too?

They could also do away with their welcome back letters. They cost money that could go to other perks. Send an email instead.

My last welcome home letter they listed me as a silver and everyone else in my family as gold.

My med cruise will be grandfathered too. Nice to have that extra $150 when I'm spending so much.

Slg, you hit the nail on the head. I also feel like once you reach 10 cruises, you are done and nothing else to look forward to. I finally just reached 10 cruises and was very happy that I now dont have to pay $25 for palo but that is all.

As a Platinum member, I especially miss the $350 OBC and Platinum Experience.

I just went to book Palo's online during our check-in and it came back that it was $20 a person... and we are Platinum... needless to say I backed out! I don't think it is fair that they still have these 'perks' listed and when you go to use them they disappear!

You won't be charged for it when you go.
