Ohana or Dessert Party

I had originally thought I would book the Dessert Party for our first night. However, I realized that would put another fireworks viewing event two days later and I'd rather not do that. However, if I switch it around I'll have to cancel Ohana. We've never done Ohana before. I know it gets mixed reviews, but we haven't done it, so I'm torn. We have done the Dessert Party before and enjoyed it. Ack! I can't make up my mind and I'm rambling now. Anyway, can you help me decide?

I would pick the desert party if I had to choose! I am not a fan of Ohana and my family had a blast at the Desert party!

We have done both and I enjoyed the Dessert Party more. But in your situation, since you have never done 'Ohana, that's the one I would go with. You have to find out for yourself which you prefer. Then next time, if you have to choose, you will know which to go with without wondering what you gave up.

It's a tough comparison because Ohana is primarily a dining experience and the dessert party is primarily an entertainment experience. We enjoyed both. As another PP noted, you won't know for sure until you've tried Ohana yourself so maybe you go for Ohana this time if you know you'll be coming back to Disney again.

Also, you can also consider watching Wishes from the Poly beach after your meal. It's a very different experience compared to watching it from the Dessert Party and one I'm glad that I had a chance to try. They do pipe in the music through the speakers lining the beach.

I for one always hear people say the dessert party was not worth it (tho haven't done it myself) so I would probably do Ohana- personally.

We have not done the dessert party so take this opinion for what it's worth.

We tried Ohana for the first time on our last trip. We LOVED it! I fell in love with the bread pudding, and well, just everything about the place. We'll be flying in and probably end up at the resort around 3 or so. We'll get a reservation for Ohana early (like 5pm) eat our fill and plop ourselves on the monorail over to the MK for the rest of the evening. Or maybe we'll take the ferry.

Either way, I think that might be our new arrival night "tradition".

I think its fine to do both. Ohana isnt really a fireworks viewing experience - but it is a great dinner. I've done the dessert party - we loved it. Dessert is yummy and its nice to have a table. So if you want to do both, its not repetitive. On cost/value, if you want to only do one if i had choose, i'd pick o'hana- this is because you can certainly see the fireworks without the dessert party.

I thought to food at Ohana was amazing. It's always a great meal for my wife and I.

The question you have to answer for yourself is, do I want entertainment or do I want a meal.

We have never done the dessert party but 'OHana's is one of our favorites. We watched the fireworks from our table. It is clearly not the best viewing experience, but on the trip we watched from inside the park twice, then from California Grill, Narcoossee's and 'OHana's, so we still enjoyed it.

Our last trip we did the dessert party and Ohana. This time dw and dmil wanted to go back to Ohana while the dessert party got a "meh". I think pumping everyone up with sugar, including the then dd3 and ds8 that late in the day were not viewed as the best moves.

I would chose 'Ohana every time! We absolutely LOVE the food there! The dessert party on the other hand (we have done twice) has never been all that amazing. The desserts are just average, and the viewing isn't anything special. As mentioned, people can walk up in front of you no matter where you are sitting anyway (so just like on Main Street!).
Good luck to you!

I would say Ohana. But since you are 90 days from your trip you might find it tough to get a reservation so better decide quickly.

Ohana! It is our favorite Disney restaurant. I also haven't been to the dessert party though but I think it is good to try something new.
