June - Poncho or Raincoat

Hello Disney lovers...
We have booked a trip in June (never been... only there during Oct and Dec.) It will be beginning of June 10 thru 17.

I am prepared for there to be a lot of rain (as always predicted for FL in June) and heat. We don't mind walking around in rain to go on rides.

anyone have a great light weight suggestion for poncho or raincoat?
Which do you prefer?

I have some Disney ones but just curious if you have any lightweight options.
thanks.

I always throw my Disney ponchos in my backpack every day. They aren't heavy and you can roll them up small.

You will get a ton of opinions from the cheaper dollar store ponchos to throw away after one use to taking umbrellas. It's all a matter of what YOU want and how you will store and carry your rain gear.

Personally, no matter what I take, I still end up getting wet anyway.

We always carry ponchos and ziplock bags to throw them back into our bags, although I sometimes just slip it through a strap for a bit, because the rain can come and go pretty quickly here. They don't take up a lot of space and are lightweight, so it's not a bother. Having them means we can walk past the people hovering under shelter to wait it out or not join those who continue to walk around without protection and get soaked (and then go into an air-conditioned ride to freeze their patooties off!). Just make sure to let the ponchos air and dry out thoroughly when you're able to, and never let the rain keep you from having a great time!

I prefer an umbrella. The ponchos, in the heat and humidity, make me uncomfortable.

We had ponchos in August and had quite a bit of rain. After the trip I wished I had a lightweight rain jacket instead. I saw someone with a clear plastic one that was really cute. Since we tend to go in August, I might get one for future trips.

We have always used ponchos in years past and just kept them in our backpacks in a ziploc bag.
This year I have purchased Pack-away-macs online. It was on Amazon.uk. They are lightweight, unlined, rain jackets in their own pouch carrying case. I am hoping that they will help to keep the rain out like the ponchos. We shall see.
I don't like the ponchos because my legs end up getting wet and the plastic of the poncho sticks to my legs in my shorts. DH doesn't have that problem as his shorts are longer and he is slightly taller. I just can't stand the poncho touching my legs like that. It feels like I'm wrapped up in a wet shower curtain. That is why we have decided to try to macs this year.
If they don't work, I will end up buying the ponchos anyways.

Ponchos for adults. Extra clothes and shoes for kids. My boys love singing and dancing in the rain! Best Disney memories happen for us when it's raining!

Teva sandals and a wide brimmed hat!

Enjoy the rain, it's the best time for rides because most guests hide in gift shops!

I agree! One of my best memories is running down the empty streets of DHS in the pouring rain with my 6 year old to make it to Rock n Rollercoaster with our fast passes. We were drenched and laughing at everyone huddled together under ponchos or overhangs. It was one of those movie moments!

That being said- we had ponchos but chose not to use them. One thing I remember is that people were asked to take them off once we were in the ride. I remember being glad that I didn't have to stuff a wet poncho in my bag for the ride. Also- it was probably the coldest I had been the trip!

I would think that a raincoat would be really cumbersome.

Ponchos for sure. Also a hat to hold the hood of the poncho on your head - its often windy when the afternoon thunderstorms roll through.

Umbrellas aren't a good idea for a couple of reasons. The aforementioned wind will wreck it quickly and even if it holds up, the rain is coming in sideways. But worst of all is that the ends of those umbrellas are right at other people's eye level, creating a real danger in crowds.

Having always gone in June with afternoon rain and last year being the wettest Disney trip EVER..for dayzzzzz..... We bring (2 adults) 2 sturdier ponchos (not disposable), 2 lightweight water resistant jackets with hoods and 2 umbrellas. We have found we like the rain jackets best. They aren't as bulky, easier to get on and off, easier to hang on the back of room chair to dry, can hold it on a ride, easier to fold up, if a lot of rain and colder evenings they double nicely for that need, and more compact for us to fit in our backpack.

our cons....
ponchos - more bulky and for some reason harder to shake the water off to stow when getting on rides. We found carrying a plastic grocery bag made it easier to roll them up quickly and stow them for rides and reduced water in our back pack. More challenging to lay out and dry - especially if needed the next day - to fold up and stow.

umbrellas - more challenging to navigate in crowds and kept us less dry. pro - easy to stow in backpack and good for a quick passing shower or quick walk in the rain.

This year, of the 3, I am leaving the ponchos at home......

ITA, on all. I actually forgot about the hat; I don't necessarily wear it all the time, but I do keep one in my bag for this purpose and for the once-in-awhile times that I put it on due to glare or heat.

Thanks all. All of your explanations are exactly what I was looking for. Different people's experiences so we can make a decision. We too love running around in the rain. It doesn't slow us down and find we can get on rides easily. Thanks for your input.
