Alpine Magic with almost 6 year old - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hi!

I have wanted to go on an ABD trip for so long and we are thinking of doing the Alpine Magic trip this summer. Long story short, my DH and I were supposed to go on a similar itinerary when I found out I was pregnant with DS. We decided to cancel then as I didn't want to travel overseas while pregnant, but now DS5 will be 2 1/2 months shy of six if we do the ABD Alpine trip in July. I read through the itinerary and it sounds like something we would all enjoy, but I'm still hesitant as ABD does suggest ages 6+ for the trip. My DS has been on a few cruises and to WDW and other places and enjoys traveling. I was also thinking of asking my MIL to come along for extra support. If it's a lot of walking, talking and sitting on a bus, it won't work, but if it's somewhat interactive, I think DS will enjoy it.

If anyone has experience with younger children on this particular itinerary or if you think there might be a better one (we also considered Germany), please let me know!

Hi, Marthasor! Have you read the Trip Reports for this ABD in our Trip Reports Sticky at the top of this Forum? I believe there are 3 of them, and I think they give you a really good idea of what this trip is like.

Yes, thank you! I read the reports and see two of the families had 6 and 7 year old children along. It looks amazing and I think it's definitely doable for our family! Thank you so much!

Hi Marthasor--our son was about 7.5 y/o when we went and we had an amazing time. We found the itinerary perfect for us. Most of the activities were outdoors. I think our longest bus ride was about 3 hours, but all the kids hung out so he was occupied with his new friends. This trip also had more free or "on your own" time than many of the other ABDs allowing you to be flexible. This was our sons first trip out of the country, although he had flown probably about 6 or 7 times before within the US. Anyways, if you have any questions I can answer, feel free to PM me.
