We live about 1 1/2 hrs from Disney, and I know of quite a few things going on that may be affecting crowds:

#1 - There is an awesome FL resident deal going on right now ($119/3 day 0r $129/4 day & 15%-35% off rooms) that they are advertising the HECK out of on every local media outlet. It's good until June 3, w/only a couple of blackout dates. Combine that w/tax return season and you'll have an increase in crowds. It's why we're going, and I know of a bunch of other "locals" who are taking advantage of it too.

#2 - Most of the local school's have a 4-day weekend this week, so I'm sure there will be larger crowds because of this (which is why we're going next week lol).

#3 - Starbound's Orlando dance/talent national competition is March 2 & 3, which is drawing ALL the local dance teams Dd's studio's competition team is taking almost 30+ girls, plus parents, teachers, etc and they are planning on doing Disney. There's a bunch of other studios going too.

#4 - While our district doesn't go on Spring Break for awhile (end of March), when I called to request a room w/a view at our hotel I was told they're already getting Spring Break-ers!

#5 - As others have said...Brazilian Tour Groups

Just a few things that I personally know of that are probably drawing larger-than-normal crowds...

I've heard DW is always busy during Valentine Day week and the weeks thereafter...esp during the Marathon.

Yeah, I was looking at the SB wait times this afternoon on my touringplans Lines app and was surprised how long the waits were... like 80 minutes for the Barnstormer!

We just got back too... I noticed a TON of Louisiana families. Then realized that it was Mardi Gras week and Louisiana kids were off from school last week. Easter is early this year so that may effect people's vacations? We noticed MK was especially crowded our first day (2/9) but we figured it was bc it was a Saturday. We decided to never do MK on a weekend again.

Also, there was a big high school cheerleading competition when we arrived- LOTS of happy (loud) cheerleaders everywhere.

Edited to add: We asked at guest services if we were able to use the pool at a different resort and we were told that starting this week (Feb 16th) pool sharing is not an option. The Disney season changes this week also.

Do you think this is because MANY of the people are on the FREE DINING PROMO that ends March 7th????? That's all I can think of. We've done FREE DINING in Sept. 2007, 2009 & 2011 & even at THAT time never experienced wait times such as those that are being posted. We are going May 4-12 are are PAYING for dining this time around (really goes against my grain to do this) but I'm hoping & PRAYING that the parks aren't as busy as NOW since the FREE DINING promo & SPRING BREAK will be over. UGH!!!

I think it is the locals enjoying the nice weather and the new Fantasy Land.

DD16's pom squad has been in DW since 2/13 along with a number of other squads from the midwest.

Our kids (and lots of others) are on February vacation Presidents week. MANY MANY folks are heading out of the snow/cold to WDW next week. Sadly we are not one of them.

We go in late Feb/early March every year and it usually isn't bad. The only time we experienced crazy crowds was on Feb. 29 last year during "One More Disney Day."

Just got back from 2/7-2/14 trip. We have been during Mardi Gras before and it was much busier this time. What I really noticed was the wait times were off on several rides: Soarin, RnRc, TSM & Test Track. Each were 20-45 minutes longer than announced. On Monday morning, Soarin had 40 minute posted wait & we waited for over 85 minutes. It appearred most of the wait was due to Fast Passes as their line kept moving and we stood still.

We will never go during a 'busy time' as we enjoy our trips in Feb. or Sept/Oct.

This weekend is President's Day, so crowds are higher because of people being off from work/school. Next weekend is the Princess Half Marathon. I'm not sure how much that impacts crowds though. I'll get to find out in a few days though.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo keeping my fingers XcrossedX that early May is NOT crowded and I hope that its warm. Sept is quite HOT & we like to wear tanks & shorts. The above quote gets me worried though. We ALWAYS plan our days around EMH. ALWAYS!!! We try and take advantage of the LATE hours, NOT the early morning openings. We never really had a problem with EMH in Sept & hoping its the same for May!!

shushhhhh!!!!! September is still the wonderful a-hem "secret" ... we go after Labor day and it's heaven. We are also going in early May again this year. The Epcot Flower/Garden show does draw the crowds, but it will never compare to the chaos we had to experience when the children were young and the only time we could go was in (ugh ugh ugh) end of August. I think you'll find May is very do-able. EMH is not a consideration for us...but then again we are very early risers and EMH or not, we are usually at the parks early and in the resort pool by 2 p.m.
