Not the Usual Passport Question

This is not the usual question of whether to passport or not to passport. My daughter recently married and will need to get her passport updated to reflect her married name. Does the passport number remain the same or will she get a new number assigned? Thanks!

It remains the same there is form that you download then send in your passport and they return it with an amended passport. It usually on the last page. If she is getting a brand new passport she will get a new passport. My passport took a few weeks for turn around.

I counter. DOS loves to issue new #'s.

A new # will be issued.

It's always a new #.

She will get a new number; State stopped amending passports once the chip was inserted in the book cover - so, for most people it was around 2003.

It may be too late, but you could have her book the trip in her maiden name, thus no need to change the passport or incur the fee.

Just make sure she has her original - with raised seal- marriage cert to send in with the renewal form if she is going to renew with a name change.

.
There is no charge for a name change if you submit it within a year.

This is only true if your original passport is issued within 1 year of your legal name change.

If your passport is issued over 1 year from the date of your legal name change then you have to send pay't for a full/new renewal passport.

As above, she can book the cruise in the name that matches the passport and have no issues or need to pay for a new passport. She can also change the name on the cruise booking up to a certain point with no fee.
