Grand Cayman Beaches

We will be stopping at Grand Cayman in April on the Fantasy and want to go to the beach. Which beach do you recommend us to go? Would love to go to an all inclusive like we are in Cozumel but not a must. We are going with my in-laws and another family of 4. Any info you can give would be great.

My family did the Rum Pointe Beach excursion in October 2012 and loved it! It was intimate, not crowded at all, probably about 40 people, shaded beach, nice snorkeling. Our lunch was included. We took a short bus ride to a catamaran, then about 45 minute ride across the bay to the beach. Recommended!

Rum Point is more remote - either 40 minutes by car from the port or you need an excursion that takes you there by boat. As described it is a smaller beach with lots of shade from the Australian pines.

The other popular beach is Seven Mile Beach. It is much closer to the port and a stop there can be combined with other excursions as it is on the way to the West Bay attractions (Turtle Farm, dolphins swims, & Hell) or to the marinas used for Stingray City trips. Depending upon how far down the the beach you go it takes 10 to 15 minutes to get there from the port.

Seven Mile Beach is a long ribbon of sand that is only actually about 5.5 miles long. To specify an exact location along that long beach the various sections of beach have differing names. Royal Palms, Westin, Governor's Beach, Sea Grape, Tiki Beach, and Public Beach are a few of those names.

7mile beach can be reached via taxi (15 passenger vans) for $5 per person each way - note that they will try to fill the van before going so you could wait 15-20 minutes.

Or you can take the public bus 1 or 2 (also 15 passenger vans) for $2.50 per person each way.

Just came back. The beach area is actually a narrow stretch, and was packed nearby the bar and restrooms area - but a short walk provided a little more open area.

You can rent chairs and/or umbrellas but not sure how much. Towels, you can bring from the ship.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think we will take a Taxi to one of the parts of 7 mile beach. Royal Palms looked and sounded nice. We are doing the all inclusive in Cozumel so no big deal if we didn't do the excursion. Just looking for some time to chill on the beach for all of us and then probably will stop on the way back and do some shopping or while at the beach area. Thanks again everyone....

So how exactly does it work? Do we pay for the day? per person? Will it be obvious as to where we should go?

I know these are stupid questions, but I'm just trying to get an idea of how it all works before I tell my girls that we're going to the beach! We've never been on a cruise, have booked the dolphin swim in Cozumel but just want to have some beach time in GC.

Thanks!!

Ditto on Royal Palms. I had to look it up, but i'm sure that is the place we got to go to after our stingray excursion in Cayman last year. Totally relaxing. We snorkeled some. Got in the pool some. But far the best thing about it was lunch. Still talking about the fresh mahimahi sandwhich or conch or tuna. The food was SO good by the pool. I loved it. I would go back for sure. Felt secure and was a great way to spend the afternoon. massages were available too if you wanted that. We had done a snorkel and catamaran with the stingray sand bar, so this was a great add on. Might be a little too relaxed if your cruises are like my ADD Husband...
