1) Destination
2) Departure Day
3) Ship

Disney was immediately eliminated from our Alaska Cruise planning last year because they go Monday to Monday. That would have required burning up 6 instead of 5 vacation days, and the companies DW and I work for prefer vacation not be taken other than in whole week chunks.
Never got to considering their price, but that probably would have also elminated Disney.

I usually have several destinations in mind first and then I look at the cost second. I have also gone on cruises just for their convenience and not really the destination.

1. Departure day (have a school aged child)
2. Destination and cruise length (7+ days is preferable)
3. Price

Price usually wins out. Can't book what I can't afford.

I should add location. Not having to fly is best because it keeps the cost down. Our first 2 DCL cruises involved no flying.

If I didn't have a school aged child I'd only take 14+ night cruises. Cruise length would win out EVERY time.

This will be our first cruise. We chose the line first, Disney. Then we chose the itinerary. Then the ship.

We like the DCL and the seven day cruise. We also prefer the Easter over Western. However, having kids in school, we go with spring break (or Christmas) and have defaulted to 4 straight Western.

So to answer OP question, it is DCL seven day cruise when school schedule allows it...

We pick by ports / destination...with the Magic and Wonder doing the better specialty itineraries (at better prices) we'll likely never step foot on the Fantasy or Dream....

Our choice is based on the destination because the 4 cruise ships are awesome! I hope there will be more variety in the cruise itineraries offered for the Dream and Fantasy in the next years so we can set sail on the new ships.

When it's DH and I it's all about the ports. If we have young kids going, then we usually go with whatever they want. Can you tell the kids are grandkids?

it depends...
for alaska, we picked itinerary first...
for the caribean, it's the ship that counts...

in europe and the med, ship is more important to me (but i live in this area, so i travel on land here a lot....otherwise, probably itinerary would be)..

anyway, it depends on where the cruise will be...

Another "it depends"...

Latest booking was destination (Europe), then date.

Previous booking was date (late May, early June), then destination.

Before that it was destination (Canada), then date.

We've never booked one with ship first, though we like the Magic so I look where she is going.

We love DCL because they are great for the kids! However, we are not DCL exclusive. Itinerary drives us most of the time. But we have taken cruises just for the ship. Honestly, the Disney Fantasy is a vacation in itself... no ports needed!
