Castaway Cay?

If I mail a postcard from Castaway Cay do I purchase postage on the island or do I need to bring stamps with me?

If I purchase it on the island - is it a special Castaway Cay stamp? is it a stamp from a Caribbean country? or is it a plain USA stamp? how much does one postcard stamp cost?

What are the postoffice hours? Is it less crowded first thing in the morning or at the end of the day as people are returning to the ship?

How long before people receive their cards.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You must purchase postage on the island. It's a Bahamian stamp, sorry I don't know the cost.

I know the post office hours are quite variable, so I would suggest just keeping an eye on whether it appears to be open.

Cards returning to the US can take anywhere from 1 or 2 weeks to several months.

Since you're in the Bahamas, you will be buying a stamp from the Bahamas. Don't know what the stamp looks like though.

It seemed to be closed at the end of the day.

Stamp is the Queen. sort of red on white.

It is $2 for a postcard with stamp and they are big and cool and you should get one and mail it to yourself. I think for just the stamp it is $.70? You need cash (dollars). I paid for someone who didn't bring money to the post office and I think it was $1.40, so that's why I'm thinking $.70.

The post office will take US money...it is under $1 to mail a postcard. You purchase the stamp there...it takes anywhere from 3 weeks and up for the mail to arrive. We just got our DVC Member Cruise postcards last week from our Jan. 12 stop at CC.

It took us about 6-7 weeks to get our postcard. We had given up on it but it finally came.

You can purchase Bahamian stamps ahead of time. Twice I have purchased them in Nassau prior to our port call on CC (there is a post office window at Festival Place on the pier in Nassau, as well as a drug store on Bay Street that sells stamps). Both times I purchased our stamps at the drug store. The ladies working there will let you know how much the stamp costs (one said it was the 65 cent stamp, the other said something like 54 cent or somewhere around there...both made it safely to the States!). That way if the post office is closed on CC, I can just drop my postcards in the mail slot on the outside of the building!

There are no set hours for the post office on CC. On a couple of our stops we never saw it open; the couple of times it was open, it was in the morning.

The cancellation on the postcard stamp does indeed say Castaway Cay!

We have seen a variety of times for the postcards to make it back home - quickest turnaround was about 3 weeks. Slowest was probably 4 months or so.

HTH!
