Hi all, I'm a wdw vet but have never been on the west coast. We are thinking about visiting CA for our summer beach trip, and I would like to do a few days at DL. Any info would be great. We are traveling as a party of 5-- Dh, myself, DD 12, DD 7 and DS 2. Sometime during our trip will be DHs bday.

1) favorite online resources
2) favorite hotels )prefer Disney accommodation but off site ok too)
3) best airport (price wise) to fly into.
4) best place northbound to spend the rest of our vacation.
5) anything else you can think of

I'm pretty sure this will be our only trip to DL so I want it to be memorable.

When I fly in from Denver I find that the Santa Ana airport has the best prices.

Check Desert Inn & Suites. With a larger family you may find it nicer to have a suite to spread out in.

I booked a C1 Parlor Family Suite that is two rooms with 4 Queen beds, 2 TV's, sofa bed, 1 1/2 bathrooms, fridge and microwave for less than a 2 Queen bed at BWPPI.

The pool is indoors which might make a difference for your family, but if you are planning a trip to the beach maybe not.

The cheapest and closest airport for us, flying in from Oregon, has been flying JetBlue into Long Beach (LGB), not sure from east coast though. We have stayed at all three Disney properties, and prefer the GCH, but each one has it's own benefits and special characteristics.

I know the IATA code is SNA, but doesn't anyone actually call the place "Santa Ana Airport". You're the first I've heard. All my tickets say "Orange County" and the vast majority of references I hear call it "John Wayne Airport".

I lived out in Orange County for 4 years, Long Beach Airport is a smaller airport and I believe Jet Blue had great prices in and out.

Hmm, I don't know. I'm originally from there and my family still lives there. We've always called it Santa Ana. If I called it anything else it would confuse my parents and my kids and I would be left waiting. Lol

My family (both my parents grew up in the LA area) calls it Santa Ana Airport. They always have.

My DH who is native to the are always referred to that airport SNA as Orange County and still does. Even on Southwest's web page when you type in LAX , it will bring up surrounding airports and it refers to SNA as Orange County.

I don't think anyone is arguing what airports or airlines call it. We are only saying that Santa Ana is acceptable and was the known and accepted name there for many many years. My parents were both natives (born and raised) and their parents called it Santa Ana, and so do they. I think it is a preference thing (like San Francisco, San Fran, The City, S.F., Frisco, only one is technically correct, but all are accepted), and not that big of a deal.

Fantasmic and the Fireworks are not always shown every night. Check your dates and see if it is shown mid week. During slower times of the year they are only shown on Fri, Sat and Sun.
