Why did they remove the zebras from Kilimanjaro?

When we were on the safari Friday, but we didn't see the zebras at the end. I asked the guide what happened to them, and he just said that it didn't work out, and for the safety of the animals they were relocated back to their original location. Any idea what happened?

They were there 3/5 when we were there. There was one kicking another one. The lions and cheetahs had brown burlap around them. They said they were introducing new animals to the area.

I can't sat that this has anything to do with their most recent removal, but on a past safari, the guide stated that zebras are incredibly territorial and that's why they were not on the savannah with the other animals. They would terrorize the other creatures to the point of injury or death. Maybe they started abusing even each other.

I love zebras and was so excited last summer when I heard the renovations being done were to reintroduce them in their own area. I hope they are able to display them somehow. They are such beautiful animals.

Such a small group is often surplus males. Sometimes that doesn't go well with other animals. But it's difficult to predict when it'll work and when it won't.

It sounds as if here there were issues and they decided to rehome the zebras.

I wrote about it on wdwsource. It was due to the zebras not being able to settle into the area. They became a danger to guests and themselves. Sometimes they would 'attack' the vehicles and bite each other. By attack I think they meant charge the vehicles. No guests ever got hurt.

My daughter is a Kilimanjaro Safari driver. The zebras were removed because they were killing each other. I think she said around five were killed. They are going to introduce a new animal in that area.

i heard that one of the zebras wasn't happy about the rumor of only getting 3 fastpasses when fastpass+ roles out and started attacking guests.

I wonder what it is about that area. I know they're a temperamental species.... but they do well on the savannah at AKL...
Perhaps it's the size of the space, or the proximity to the predators...
At AKL once I watched as the zebras made it clear to a wildebeest that was trying "to hang" with them that he wasn't welcome. No one got hurt though....

So disappointed that they removed the Wilson storyline to put the Zebras in place, only to now remove them.

When I rode the Safari last Nov, some of the zebras were kicking others and lots of biting going on between them.

I figured they wouldn't last long if that kept up.
