Uploading photos while on vacation

Okay, so planning my first trip with my DSLR and just curious about your uploading habits, for those of you that take a lot of pics in the parks. When we used to take a point & shoot, we would just wait until we got home to upload. Last trip, we relied heavily on our iPhones, so we just uploaded them and shared immediately. Since I plan on taking a lot of pics with my new favorite toy, I am probably going to take my laptop to upload at the end of the day. Is that what most of you do? Is there another option that I'm overlooking or just don't know about? I know I saw a post recently about an attachment you can use with your camera and iPhone or iPad, but I know very little about it. Any help will be appreciated!

I bring my laptop with two portable external hard drives. I upload the images nightly and format my cards for a fresh start each day. I usually have 40-60gb of images (I shoot RAW/JPEG) for our weeklong trip. I usually bring my old laptop because if something happens to it, its no big loss. It has a relatively small hard drive that's the reason for the two portables. I always have duplicate copies of the images for safety sake.

I bring my laptop. I dump all my cards on it at the end of the day when the kids are settling in to sleep. I make a backup and then pick the best shots to process and share online.

I keep a laptop at Disney in our Owner's Locker. I carry two external hard drives back and forth with me. I upload the cards into Lightroom on the laptop every night, and reformat the cards to use again the next day. When doing the Lightroom import, I have it set to make a duplicate copy of the images on one of the two external drives.

At the end of the trip, I copy everything from the laptop, including the lightroom catalog, onto the second external drive.

Looks like great minds think alike. I just started a similar thread a few hours earlier, you also may want to look at it.

Based on the responses a lot of people bring a laptop or netbook (mostly for size) and a portable drive or two. Others make backups onto tablets. Depending on where you are staying, the may have a computer you can use or rent, just beware of possible maleware issues! Once you copy the files off you can reformat the card, if needed, or bring multiple cards and use those as an additional BU.

You can upload your files online, but I wouldn't rely on to as your only options. Resorts may have slow connection speeds or limit what you can upload. If you do, you might want to only upload your best shots.

You can also get an iPad camera card reader/attachment. They run around $30 and you get an SD card one and a USB one. They actually work out well, but I found that the netbook/portable drive worked better for me.
