Opinions on the new Southern Caribbean itinerary?

Having done most of the itineraries that Disney offers, I have a Southern Caribbean cruise on hold for 2014. We are a family of 5 with kids 15, 13 and 10. Has anyone that has cruised or traveled to those ports want to talk me into or out of the Southern Caribbean cruise? I'm not familiar with San Juan or any of the ports and would love any opinions and advice. Please tell me what you know about San Juan, Antigua, St Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and/or St. Lucia. I appreciate any information that will help us decide whether or not to take this cruise!!!

We stopped in St. Kitts on a RCCI cruise last year and really enjoyed our excursion. We took a catamaran snorkeling cruise that stopped by St. Kitts and then went over to a beach on Nevis for a BBQ. It's a beautiful island and there was plenty eat and (especially) drink. Didn't see much of the port except to walk from the ship to where we boarded the catamaran.

We've also stayed on Barbados, although it was a long time ago. It's also a beautiful island with two distinctly different sides. The east coast is actually on the Atlantic, and is wave and wind battered with lots of cool rock formations. Many people think it looks more like the coast of Scotland than a Caribbean island. The west coast is on the Caribbean, however, so there are white sand beaches and calm turquoise water. Have a cold Banks Beer or try some Mt. Gay Rum; both of which are made on the island.

St. Lucia and Antigua we've never been to before, but both are on our list to try!

FWIW, we're booking one of these cruises today.

We had done a southern route several years ago on RCCL. I loved every single stop we made. It was also a very port intensive trip and it was tiring though lol!!! We did not have a child with us for that trip. We started in San Juan stopped at St. Marten, St. Kitts, Curacao, St. Lucia and Barbados. My all time favorite was St. Lucia. I have been waiting to go back to these ports since my last trip. We now have a son so we are thrilled that Disney is finally offering these ports. We will be booking tomorrow since we are only silver castaway members.

We did a Southern route on RC several years ago and loved it. Enjoyed our time in San Juan so much before the cruise that we went back that year for a week at Christmastime and again when dh had a big birthday. Southern ports are great!

We have been to San Juan and Antigua and loved both. In San Juan we explored the town on our own. There is a free trolley to help you get around and the forts are fun to explore. We had a great lunch in old San Juan and spent the afternoon exploring that area.

Antigua is my favorite of all the Caribbean ports we have visited. We did Eli's Eco Tour and had a great time. The tour lasted all day so we didn't see much more of the island, but plan to on the 9/20 Southern Caribbean.

We took the first DCL Southern, can't remember the year. We loved Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia. We booked again today for the Sept 2014 cruise.

I too was on the the 2006 southern cruise for 11 nights on the Wonder. I am not a fan on the new intinerary only because of the one sea days. I like sea days. The 11 night had 4. That was cool. This has one. I will have to pass.

Alan, I absolutely love sea days as well and will definitely miss them. Our last cruise was the Hawaii cruise with you and loved every single sea day. Nothing else struck our fancy and we loved the islands.

We did a stop at Basseterre St. Kitts on Celebrity in 2011! We did the Scenic Railway! Absolutely amazing..... They have a website. It basically took around half of the island, excellent sea views, it was breezy & comfortable.

I hope you enjoy. Also don't like the fact the cruise starts and ends in San Juan. Still that's me. I hope you enjoy.

I too preferred the itinerary of the 11 night Southern Caribbean cruise we took in September 2006 over the 2014 cruises - not sure what the itinerary was for the 2011 cruise.

We went on Carnival a couple years ago just to do St.Lucia and St. Kitts. We are already planning on spending most of our day in St.Kitts at Brimstone Hill Fortress. Amazing place.

Must go to the Pitons in St.Lucia. We did a tour there and toured a banana plantation and tried many of the local foods along the way.

We did the DCL Antigua cruise in 2004. Didn't like Antigua all that much, but still beautiful!
