I was in my early 20's and a friend from church asked me if I would go to her husband's x-mas party with one of the guys that worked in his group. He'd just moved to the area and didn't really know anyone.

Since I lived in the area all my life, and my dad had worked for the company at one time, I knew it would be a pretty swanky affair with a nice buffet, a band, and door prizes. I got all dressed up in a nice red dress, heels, etc. Guy shows up in jeans, work boots and a flannel shirt, but seemed nice. We get there and of course everyone is all dressed up, but it didn't seem to bother my "date." He hardly talked to me all evening, talked shop with with his co-workers, wouldn't dance, etc. My friend was mortified! When they started pulling tickets for the door prizes I won a bottle of scotch. Well the evening finally ended and my "date" brought me home. As I was getting ready to get out of the car he asked me "so, who gets the bottle?" Since I wanted to get out of there I graciously told him he could have it. He said no, I think we should flip for it" as he's digging a coin out of his pocket. I'm no, you go ahead and take it (I didn't drink scotch anyway) and he's flipping this coin yelling "call it in the air, call it in the air." I called heads and it came up heads. He then said, "let's do the best two out of three." Again "call it in the air, call it in the air!" Called heads again and it came up heads. At that point I figured I won that bottle fair and square, grabbed it and made a hasty exit!

My family and I have laughed over that date for years. My friend's husband told her that the guy asked if he'd set us up again and he said no way. Guy wanted to know what went wrong!

Two old ladies, Edna and Agnes, were chatting at lunch at the Senior Citizens Center and Edna mentioned that she had had a date the night before.

"Oh," asked Agnes, "how did it go?"

"Well," replied Edna, "I had to slap him twice."

"My goodness," exclaimed Agnes, "Did he get fresh with you?"

"No," replied Edna, "I just wanted to make sure he was still breathing."

I met DH when I was 18 and a freshman in college (1978). We never had a bad date. I don't really have any horrible first date stories, but I had my share of meh dates in HS and college. Some of these stories are hysterical. I did go out with one guy right after HS who I had gone to school with and known. He asked me out and the night we went out was the last night before he left for the Merchant Marine Academy which he told me several times. He was looking for something before he left. He was very disappointed.

Lol! My mom always has told us about how she went on a double date with her best friend and their BF's. They went to see jaws in the movie theatre, and she got so scared, she jumped and spilled her soda all over her date! Ooops!

I went on a blind date with someone younger than me -- though I didn't realize HOW much younger until the date. I was 21 and I thought the guy was 20 (which wasn't a big deal, because I never really drank or did the club scene or anything). Before the date, I told him it was a really lean week for my budget and I couldn't afford to do much, but he told me not to worry and he would cover everything. We met at a local fair, but 1) he was only 17 and 2) all of his buddies were there. In the parking lot before going in, my date bought a pair of shoes from one of his buddies that just happened to be nearly ALL of his money for the night...so he had just enough to pay for our tickets into the fair, but nothing else. So, while his friends were riding the rides and playing the games, we were just left standing there, watching them. At one point in the night, I think one of his buddies bought me a lemonade.

After the fair, I wanted to go home, but he said that I must be starving and he wanted to take me out to eat. I should have refused, but he swore he could cover it, so I went. We went to a Perkins (a chain like Ihop or Dennys), still with all of the friends. I ordered a very modest meal (maybe $4) and sat back while all of the teens acted like teens. After the bill came, I went to go to the bathroom. When I came back to the table, the manager was asking all of us to leave (me included!). Apparently, my date's idea of getting enough money to cover dinner was to go around the restaurant and steal the tip money off the tables!

I could NOT leave there fast enough.

Not as funny as some stories, but quite annoying ...

Went out with someone who had alraedy broken up with his ex-girlfriend for over 6 months or so.
Went to the movies, and through-out the entire movie he did nothing but text with his ex-girlfriend, and kept showing me / telling me each time she texted.

Had to tell him to shut up all the time and to put his phone away.

I hated dating. Truly hated it. I rarely went on dates and much preferred a relationship after meeting and hanging out as friends first (usually meeting in a group setting and being part of a group first.)

However, I did meet a guy who asked me out when I was about 25. I agreed. He seemed nice enough.

It wasn't a particularly bad date, just very awkward. He picked me up and made a huge deal about how he had bought new clothes for our date and had new cologne on. I honestly don't remember much of the rest of the evening, he just struck me as very odd.

We never went out again.

My sister used to go with her girlfriend to clubs to dance. She thought she was hitting it off with a guy until he asked her to go witness an autopsy with him. He was not a doctor but somehow connected with the medical world.
