Just wanted to get some thoughts on something, and this is just preliminary anyway. We're waiting to see if free dining is offered or not (last week of August). We're planning on staying in 2 value rooms, but if rumors are true and fd is only for mod/deluxe, just wondering what the thoughts are for our situation.

There will be 4 adults and 1 child. I've asked/been told a twin air mattress would fit in a POR, so that isn't an issue. My question is, is it worth it for FD to be cramped in a room? The child is small (of course) but the rest of us are bigger than average (height and weight). I don't see us sitting in the room much, but I just don't know about all of us being stuck in a hotel room together.

I wouldn't pay for the dining plan, but doing the math is just seems like an amazing deal when free. Seems like all of us being in the room together would be so worth it. And really, how much time are we going to spend in the room?

I know there are other options, but we are on a low budget. We can't afford to be spending 400/night to get 2 mod rooms, so that's out of the question.

Like I said, this may not even matter as the values may be in fd (or they may not even offer it). Just curious to get opinions early.

booked our stay to go back to POR in Oct. DH and I stayed here years ago before the kids and are excited to go back. If my parents decide to join us we will decide if we want to stay POR (Since we need it for 5) or switch to POFQ

Hi y'all. We're staying in a Royal Room River view in April. Is there a building we should request that is closer to the food court/main building? Thanks!

First of all, it depends on the size of the child, but in the alligator bayou rooms there is a murphy bed. I've heard it is not a full size bed. However, there is also not even as much storage room as normal in the room because of the murphy bed.

We stayed in 2 rooms at POFQ with 9 people. It was tight but that was with my DH, my six children and my sister. So, I would say that it in part depends on how comfortable you are with sharing with the other two adults. Can you work together to get ready around one bathroom?

It can take flexibility and knowing each other's habits/routine pretty well. How long will each adult take to get ready to go and is one willing to get up earlier to be first and out of the way? How many will shower at night and how many in the morning? Is it the habit of one adult to stay up watching tv before going to sleep and not the others? Is everyone on the same page with getting up for rope drop or staying up for EMH?

If you can work out these types of issues without bickering or hard feelings, then it may be worth it. But free dining would not be worth it if the result is a miserable time and fighting/hurt feelings.

  • How much do you like each other?
  • How long is your trip?
  • Will you still like each other after x days of 5-way fights for the bathroom?
  • How well do the 4 of you fit in 2 queen beds?
  • Do any of you have any habits that are not annoying when taken in small doses, but may become rage inducing after being together 24 hrs a day? (That may sound like a joke question, but seriously, you won't have the 'alone time' away from each other that separate rooms allow.)
  • By doubling the room capacity, you've also added to the morning ritual/night time ritual time... can you live with having to get up earlier to get everyone going and probably falling asleep later?

We are all pretty close and easy going, so I really don't see there being many issues. Any habits of others shouldn't cause any ill feelings. Sharing 1 bathroom could be interesting, although no one spends alot of time in there.

I keep reading that now that there are murphy beds in the AB rooms they have significantly less storage space than Magnolia rooms, but...

...From all the videos and pictures I have seen that really doesn't seem to be the case. They both have 3 small drawers in the bureau (AB drawers look maybe a little smaller. While the murphy bed does take up space, the fridge in the Magnolia rooms is in the bureau, so that takes almost the same amount of space.

Seems to me the only real extra storage space Magnolia provides is the luggage stool. Am I correct assuming this?

At CSR we were able to refill our resort mug at the pool bar. Can we do this at the POR pool bar?

It's been 4 years since we've been to POR, and we didn't spend much time at Old man Island last time.

There are still some teething problems with the touch-to-pay terminals for example - and if you only have a wristband, I guess there's no manual 'swipe' backup option any more.

When they do arrive though, if you've pre-registered online they will come already boxed up ready for your whole room - and everyone will have their own individually named bands. Super cute!

Of course, with the probability of no turnstiles any more very soon, I wonder how they'll count people back out of the parks...?

It'll be just my luck that they will come out the day before our vacation. I'm not necessarily opposed to them and don't want to start a debate here - they get heated quick - but since they are having so many problems with the app and web site, now, I fear many problems once they have everyone up and running. Computers are currently so glitchy!! But, we will make the best of it!

crossing a bridge to POFQ

We know we are going to the pool at FQ at least twice, and trying to decide which building to request that will meet most of our needs and some of our wants. We are in a RGR standard view so it will def be Oak or Parterre.

Someone posted that if you are in Parterre to get to FQ you have to walk up to a bridge, cross it and walk down the opposite side, basically repeating your steps but on the other side. But looking at the jogging/walking trail and the Google satellite it looks like there is a bridge right under the roadway at the end of what looks like the Riverside property. True?

Oh and what are the side parts of Parterre called, wings maybe?

The other question I had has to do with me flipping through the Unofficial Guide to WDW last night. It said that the river view rooms in PP look at the river, but also the parking lot on the other side. Is this an exaggeration? Are there at least some trees/vegetation between the river and the parking lot?
Yes, the door locks are all RFID now. I don't know whether AP-issued magicbands will be usable at POR before the overall system is launched there for regular guests, which is estimated for late Spring at the moment. It depends on whether the necessary equipment is set up yet.

The UG just means that one side of the building faces the river while the other side faces the parking lot - but they are large buildings, so there's quite a bit of land in between (check out Google Earth images to get an idea of the scale).

If you pre-register via the My Disney Experience website then you can choose from a range of colours which will each be personalised with your names and delivered to the resort the night before you arrive (in the future, they will even be able to be posted out to US guests in advance). If you just turn up and need to get a band encoded while you wait, I think you'll get a generic grey one - second class citizen marker or what?

Generally most of the closest rooms are in Oak Manor, however the very best ones are in the northern wing of Parterre Place. I suggest just requesting a room close to the main building rather than requesting either building specifically, as then they can check both options for you. If you do want to request a building, go for Oak (which is also closer for the main swimming pool). The best category to book for easy access would be Royal Room Pool View by the way, as all of those rooms are very close to the bridge over to the main building.

Pretty much, yes. The drawers in AB are slightly smaller and less easy to access when the fold-down bed is in use though. Also you lose the table-top surface from the top of the missing dresser, and also the luggage seat (and the space underneath it). However there is a little bit of extra shelf space next to the fridge, and on top of the banquette bench seat.

Overall the consensus is that there is less usable storage space in the AB rooms than there is in the mansions, which can become an issue when five people are in the room. However it's not a major issue.

No, sorry, just the food courts (you can use POR and POFQ though).

You can cross the river by either bridge. If you are in Oak Manor or the northern wing of Parterre Place, it's probably easier to use the first footbridge you come to. If you are further along the river towards POFQ, just walk along to the road bridge and cross over there (there's a separate footpath provided, it's quite safe).

Wondering if there is any hand soap by the sink...or should I bring my own. I don't really want to use the bar soap for that.....

And I am confused, is POR already using the Magicbands?
