Question Luggage on Debarkation

We are using private transportation and not DCL transportation when disembarking. To avoid rushing to pack the night before, we'd like to bring all of our luggage with us when leaving instead of putting bags out the night before. Has anyone done this?

I think you have to leave it out as it has to go through customs

You actually take your bags through customs after picking them up off the ship - I believe it's a customs requirement that your bags enter the country with you in case they need to be inspected.

You should be able to take your bags off yourself. The thing to remember is that they ask you to take your bags with you to breakfast - so you'll need to take *everything* with you to breakfast, then tote it all off the ship. We've never done it (luggage pick up has been a snap except for one bag once in Barcelona) but I do know they recommend it for early flights.

Good luck!

Yes, we do not leave our luggage out the night before. We pack light and take them off with us in the morning and do the express by being able to be the first off the ship because we take our own luggage. We are usually to the curb to meet our driver by 7:30 - 7:45.

Dragging luggage to breakfast is a pain, not to mention there's luggage everywhere! We like to eat breakfast in Cabanas (Topsiders) before we're required to be out of the room, so we can leave our carry-on luggage in our room.

I almost always take my own luggage out. The only time I didn't was in December, when I was able to use the onboard check-in. Had to leave it out for that.

I find the easiest thing to do is skip breakfast in the MDRs that morning. Go really early to the buffet, grab food & take it back to your cabin to eat there. When you're all ready to leave, just take everything with you, and debark as soon as you can (You might be able to just walk off at that point). Just be sure to leave your room by 8am.

We actually leave the luggage in our room while we run up and eat. Or my DH will go and get breakfast and bring it back to the room.

On our recent Magic cruise in November 2012, they offered Express Debarkation. You keep your bags with you and thewy let you off the ship early. You cannot place anything outside your door the night before or else you need to wait a little longer for the clearance. We did it and so did about 1/3 of the boat I would figure. We did get off the boat at 7:30am to start our trip home. Smart thing for Disney to offer. Saves a lot of work the night before for room hosts. There is no help available to you get off the ship where there are porters available. If all ships aren't offering that now, it will not be long before they do. By the way, I can update you next week as to whether they are still doing that on the Magic. leaving Friday for the 8-day from Galveston to WDW.
