If it was this September, I could get us there on Aer Lingus for just under $700 a person. That's not horrible. 1800flyeurope is a tiny bit cheaper, but I'm a bit wary of booking through them. Anyone purchase through them before?

Cheers!
I have heard of quite a few people booking with 1800flyeurope on previous trips.

You can also try sites like skyscanner and vayama - I have used both of these, found reasonable prices and had no problems at all.

I will be looking for 9 flights back from USA to Europe so I do not relish that endeavour.

We have used skyscanner before, they come up with some very competitive prices

Does anyone know if you can use credit card points to upgrade if you bought your flight through a consolidator like 800flyeurope? We didn't have a card that did airline points before, but I have one now. It would be nice to be able to upgrade to business class from economy to go to Barca. It was like a cattle barge last time!

That SkySKanner site definitely looks worth checking out -thank you!

Any ideas of when flights for our cruise will start opening up? I know to set an amount in my mind to pull the plug as for when to buy - I just want to know when to start looking. It seems it might be about 11 to 12 months out?

In the UK it's 11 months out, not sure if it's the same for you though Holly.

Thought I heard that flights open up at about 331 days or so. I know I purchased my ticket for 2010 in jan 2010. A fellow cruiser saw a sale on USAir and we grabbed one way tickets for $460.

Come Aug/Sept I have a feeling we will all start watching sales like a hawk. Hopefully everyone will share so we can all jump on good deals! I know we are purchasing 4 (possibly 5 if we have the baby in its own "seat"), so we are going to need a good deal.

I'm glad to know the time frame as I want to make sure I have the funds all set to just pull the trigger when I see an airfare I like. I have a range in mind - and I've seen lower on the 11 month out dates from now. I suspect that September isn't as a high fare time like the summer would be?

Here is an article that might be helpful - it talks about the "optimal" number of weeks you should buy your tickets in advance :

ttp://travel.nytimes.com/2012/04/15/travel/book-well-ahead-to-save-money-on-airfare.html

Another article I read suggested that you book, then rebook if you see a lower rate, but pay a booking fee. I guess it would depend on the cost of the rebooking fee.
