Cruising With Baby

Hi there! I am new to this board and am hoping you experts can help me! I will be cruising with my 15 month old soon and wondered if any of you might be able to share your favorite "tips" and "tricks" with me. The last cruise I took was about 8 years ago (pre-children) so this will be an entirely new ballgame for us. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

We cruise with DS when he was 18 months old. We found a balcony room to be invaluable for his nap times and early bed times, gave us some place to be.

We cruised with our son when he was just 8 months last year and it worked out really well. They give you a pack n play and diaper genie. We used the nursery for babysitting several times and he loved it there. He is in day care so we were used to leaving him and had no problems. They will follow all instructions you give them. They also gave us some pictures of him as well and a cute back pack at the end.

He participated in the baby crawling contest and that was a lot of fun so be sure to check that out. He also liked the shows.

He was not a good sleeper and slept well on the cruise as well.

I agree about the balcony! When it was just DH and I cruising, we'd usually get an inside to save $, but when we sailed with DD when she was 16 months I was so grateful for the balcony! Perfect for naptime, evenings, leisurely breakfasts (I would run up to the buffet and bring back goodies or we'd order room service). DD loved going outside too. Once she's old enough for the kids clubs we might go back to the cheaper rooms, but for now I am all about the balcony

Otherwise, bring stuff for them to do while waiting for dinner. We weren't on DCL last time, so disney might be better, but sometimes it would take a while to get our meals, so I packed a stash of cheap toys that I rotated frequently to bring out at dinner (granted we did have her with us through 5 courses each night, so if you do fewer courses or utilize the nursery this might be less crucial).

Of course bring plenty of snacks and extra clothes for the baby. We also found our umbrella stroller to be fairly useful, DD was a new walker, so if we'd be walking around a lot in ports we were glad to have it. We also took her out a few nights in it once she was asleep so we could go have drinks or listen to music (again, you have access to a nursery, so maybe less of an issue).

So glad to hear that you recommend having a balcony....
Our little girl will be 7 months when we go on the Dream in April and I was actually nervous about having the balcony. But it definitely makes sense that you'll have it enjoy during nap time/early bedtime.

Thank you so much for all the great advice!

Google BabiesTravelLite (I think that's it?) They have some great options for delivering things like diapers, inflatible bath tubs, etc to your room.

The dining room is really wonderful about puree-ing food for little ones.

There is not need to google Babies Travel Lite, the link is on DCL's website and in the FAQ sticky at the top of the board.
